I have some DVDs that my grandma purchased in Holland and she gave to me for christmas. However I live in the US and while I know there are DVD players out there that play PAL dvds fine, none of the DVD players I own (Panasonic & Toshiba) are able to play PAL DVDs.

I have a brand spanking new iMac and I thought maybe there is a way to make convert it from PAL to NTSC, burn the DVD and watch away. This is just a personal copy and it won't leave the house so I am not trying to engage in anything illegal, before the subject comes up.

In short.... What do I have to do to convert from PAL DVD to NTSC DVD...

Hi yvovandoorn,

long time consuming process:
1) I suppose, the DVDs are commercial ones=copy protected; get a ripper as MacTheRipper

2) convert the backup of your DVD into something editable… get the Mpeg2 Playback Componant for 20$ plus the free tool Mpeg2Streamclip
you get BIG .dv streams

3) convert video standards with the free JES Deinterlacer

4) author the resulting dv stream into a new DVD with, letssay, iDVD…

----
use your Mac as a DVD player… on a Mac, video standards doesn't matter
----

many/most/all DVD standalones in Europe playback all standards…
