Hi,

I have a 40Gb 3G iPod and my wife today bought a new 4Gb Mini.

What i wondered was can I use my FireWire charging cable that came with my 40Gb iPod to charge the Mini?

On the surface, the cables look the same, but obviously, I don't want to risk it until I have some more info.

Many thanks,

Matthew

Matthew,

you can use the firewire cable to charge any dock-connector ipod. thus, the cables are interchangeable. on the other hand, USB charging is only supported by 4G ipods and up plus the mini, so you would not be able to charge your 3G via USB, afaik.

both mini and full sized ipod (with dock connector) use the same charger and the same cables, you should be able to exchange and use them without a problem.

Hi,

So basically, I can use the FireWire cable then to charge both my wife's Mini and my 3G 40Gb? I've got that right, yes?

Thanks,

Matthew

Yes. Just give it a try and hook it up. The cable and the charger didn't change from 3G to the 4G/mini (although nowadays only a usb cable is packaged with an ipod, the firewire cable works fine and can be purchased seperately)

3G iPods can not charge through the USB. Apple sells a USB and Firewire -> dock for charging and syncing. Firewire will work for both iPods though.
