ain't the first time this has come up. just based on that history, i'm skeptical these latest talks will go anywhere, but hey ya never know.
some quick thoughts:
- more so than in the past, there are less and less technical reasons for this NOT to happen. A modern Intel chip could emulate the Blue Box at acceptable speeds, and as far as I understand it, all Cocoa apps would merely need to be recompiled and redistributed as a fat binary.
- can anyone more knowledgeable comment on whether the Carbon frameworks are also as easily cross-platform, or are they more dependent on PPC-specific architecture?
- a move to Intel would probably further ease porting and cross-platform development, which could be a major plus for Mac OS in the future.
are there any persuasive arguments why NOT to do this?

Both companies have already denied it. This rumor is almost as old as the 'Apple is dying' rumors and is just about as credible. Apple will not be porting to that junk architecture anytime soon.

Actually, there might a a certain basis to this: Intel just released their first Firewire 800 chipset (a very, very good thing).
Since Apple developed the standard in co-operation with Sony, if memory serves, it would make sense that Apple and Intel were in "talks" during development. Of course, people might always jump to the wrong conclusions...

Intel makes more chips then just Pentium CPU's. Apple makes more products that use CPU's then Macintoshes.
That said, probably fluff rumor piece to boost traffic.
