The best bet would be give both a call and ask if their ram fits your PB. Then compare.

Ordered the Kingston ram from Putpost with the $30.00 rebate. Final price $109. Installed in no time and runs great. I've been happy with Outpost service and ram.
Bought a gig of generic ram a year ago (from Outpost) and have never had a problem with it. Now, I'm finally up to 2 gigs.
Running an Albook 15".

Remember if a need to take to Apple for Service - take out the third party RAM before hand.

thanks for the quick reply!
i looked on kingston's website to see if there is officially listed compatability with my powerbook and it lists this type of ram as compatible with 17" 1.67 powerbook:
KTA-PBG4333/1G 1GB PC2700 SODIMM
is this the same exact ram being sold on outpost here:
http://shop1.outpost.com/product/438...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
if not, does kingston still guarantee the outpost ram to work even though its not listed to officially work on kingston's site (nor on outpost's site)?

I just ordered the Kingston RAM (the same one from the link above) from Outpost.com. I actually ordered it Friday evening and it came Saturday afternoon. Talk about quick! The model number is KVR333SO/1GR.
So far, so good (4 hours). The system detected it and some stuff like tabbing/opening new browsers through safari and adium is not as laggy.

in addition to the post above, i have another question, although this one might be kinda dumb (im not too hardware savvy and havent dealt with ram much)
if the ram turns out to be bad or something and the computer is having problems, if i take the offending ram out and reboot, everything should go back to normal right?

I would say yes, but someone else with expereience and knowledge would be better to check this with. I would suggest you start a new thread. Someone with knowledge looking at this old thead, well your odds are slim.
The big honchos like to respond to these types of questions.
So state your question in a new thread.

I just picked up some of that RAM at my local Fry's - part number KVR333SO/1GR. It was $199 before the $30 rebate (impatience has its price, I guess), and it seems to be running great in my pb 12". First thing I did was run memtest, and it completed it with no errors. I will certainly post if I do run into any difficulties.
This seems to be a nice forum you guys have here, and this thread has been pretty informative. I found this article on Anandtech (Anand got himself a mac a while back) that may be of interest to some of you memory shoppers.

Yes its true,
You no longer have to pay obscene prices for a 1gig stick of crucial ram. In the past 2 days I've seen Crucials price vary from 184.95 to 196.95 which was a far cry from 255.95 a week ago and four hundred something beyond that. Yes there is cheaper RAM, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for."

Correct me if I am wrong, but after going through the entire thread, I came to this conclusion.
Rev A and Rev B Al powerbooks are more picky than Rev C or Rev D ones.
The following brands have been verified to work with Rev A and Rev B from this thread.
Samsung
Patriot
On the other hand, if you have Rev C+ , the following brands will work:
Samsung
Patriot
Kingston
Kingmax
Cheers

Yes, I love Crucial, I have bought all of my RAM there in the past. I was actually looking for some deals this time around though, their prices aren't the best, and I'd be willing to take a chance on Kensington or OWC ram, but thought I would ask if anyone else had some other tips.

I definitely agree on this one. I have a Rev B and I ordered the Kingmax RAM (1GB) from NewEgg. It simply would not work - any attempt to run the memory test on it would result in a reboot. I had previously tried two different sticks from Crucial (512MB) with no success either. Even though these passed the memory tests, I would get random kernel panics.
On Friday I went to Fry's. I stopped by looking for something else, and they had Patriot memory, 512mb stick, on sale, for $55 after rebate ($65 before). I figured it was worth a try - took it home - and it worked perfectly. Passed the hardware tests and everything.
Odd, but at least I found a stick that finally works.

The Kingston 1GB memory from Outpost.com is working great in my new Rev. D AlBook.
Though I must admit, OS X really chews through RAM. I've got 1.5GB on this and I'm still showing some pageouts. That is just running MS Office Apps, Safari, Mail, and Adobe Reader.

I personally wouldn't go for memory4less dude, apparently its got really bad reviews from people about delivering the wrong ram and all. I'd rather buy from outpost.
HEY fELLAS. Anyone can help me claim the rebate from outpost for the kingston ram? I stay in singapore so I'm not eligible for the rebate. Is it possible to deliver it to my place here while you do the claiming of the rebate? Maybe we could split it?

Sure looks like the one for the PowerBook 1.67 g4. I am saveing my pennys for this this ram may even drop again before I get all the pennys together. Spend my $ on my new PB 15.2 custom - love it and all the software it comes with. =now to load up with 2gb......
Someone who has purchase these chips needs to let you know for sure if these are correct and that they work.

I suggest sticking with either OWC RAM - they sell Samsung RAM pretty cheap - or get a hold of Crucial RAM. You really do get what you pay for.

Why do you not suggest picking up the kingston ram?

I plan on getting 2x1gb sticks of the Kingstone ram from outpost before their rebate is up. It seemed like a lot of users that purchased the ram had no problems with it. I just want to make sure there isn't going to be an issue before I drop the 200$ on the ram. This will be for my g4 1.67.

I'm contemplating upgrading my ram, but will a jump from 1 gig to 2 gigs make a huge difference? I'll be doing occassional video editing and a few games, but mostly just internet, chatting, music, and papers.
