My dad killed his iBook again. We're not exactly sure what's wrong with it. It seems to boot and once booted the volume can be adjusted, it can be put to sleep, shut down, etc. but the screen does not light. Screen has already been replaced once before. If someone wants to tinker with it and see if they can get it working or just part it out, I'd be willing to sell it for a reasonable price. It's a 900mhz G3, 30 GB hard drive, etc. For now, I've stripped the user installed parts, so I have these to sell:

512 MB Samsung RAM, 133mhz low profile for iBook G3. $75 OBO, shipped.

Original AirPort Card(802.11B), $75 shipped.

Thanks,

Update:

I was able to boot the iBook in FireWire Target mode this morning and am currently backing up its files. Both the hard drive and optical drive (combo drive) mounted without any trouble, which seems to indicate that most of the major components are working. The hard drive is actually 40GB, not 30GB as previously stated. The iBook is in good cosmetic condition. Would $500 shipped be reasonable?

Thanks,

-blake.

The AirPort card has sold. The rest is still up for grabs. I'm open to offers for the memory and/or iBook. Everything on it seems to be working aside the screen, so maybe someone could part it out or do something with it.

Have you tried the Expanded iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program?

I don't think it's eligible or necessarily the logic board that's the problem. The screen has been replaced before and is likely the culprit. Everything else seems to be working.

I'd really like to get this off my hands, so I'm open to offers below the price listed. Someone else might be able to get this running or at least take the time to part it out. I just don't feel confident taking it to pieces myself. Shoot me an email if interested.

Thanks,

-blake.

The logic board issue is video related.

The Expanded iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program covers iBooks that have a specific component failure on the logic board, resulting in the computer starting up but the built-in and attached external displays exhibiting one or more of the following symptoms:

Scrambled or distorted video

Appearance of unexpected lines on the screen

Intermittent video image

Video freeze

Computer starts up to blank screen

Thanks, you may be right. I may drop it off at the local Apple store to let them have a look.

The iBook will still be for sale.

I was wrong. Apparently the iBook qualifies. It's now being shipped to an Apple Repair Center and should be back and functional next week. I'll have it up for sale again now. For now, it is not available.

Thanks,

blake.

No problems. Would have hated to see you lose money over something Apple would fix for free.
