i spilt coffee on my keyboard and some of the keys have stopped working. what do you reckon the chances of getting them back in action are?, or would i be looking at buying a new keyboard? if i might be able to get them working, any tips on getting the keyboard open? - it has those little hexagon type screws and i've no tool to fit them. also, at a different date, the key to open the cd drive stopped working - to open it, i restart and hold down the mouse, then restart again to close it. - any quicker ways to open the drive? it's an imac. thanks.

Pop the keys off and clean it up with rubbing alcohol. If you need a screwdriver, any hardware store should have the right one.

Do you mean the keys stick, or they don't function when pressed?

Dishwasher, no detergent.

Then let dry well on a heater.

a friend of mine was told to do this by an apple tech. he didn't believe him, bought a new board, but thought 'what do i have to lose', and it worked like a peach

I recently spilled Diet Coke on my keyboard (I think it was an Apple Pro - came with my 3 1/2 year-old Quicksilver). About half the keys quit working. Since I never liked the keyboard anyway, I fixed the problem by spending $29.99 on a new Apple keyboard. It so happens that I like the new 'board much better and it has a smaller footprint.

I'll have to remember the dishwasher trick the next time, however; might come in handy in an emergency.

Was it Diet Vanilla Coke, Diet Lime Coke, or just standard Diet?

You can eject the drive by opening iTunes and hitting the eject button.

I spilled it on my imac keyboard years ago and it was totally hosed. Had to shell out for a new one.
