Dear all,

I have got a serious problem with a 15'' Powerbook, latest release, with Superdrive. On Friday, I insertet a CD, which is not recognized (=does not appear on desktop), and I cannot eject it.
I tried all sorts of things (booting with mouse key/eject key, "eject cd" from open firmware, resetting parameter ram...). On startup, the SuperDrive spins (you can hear the noise), but after 10 to 20 seconds it appears dead.
Moreover, I noticed that Apples System Profiler in its ATA-section just displays ATA-6-Bus, which is the HD. ATA-3-Bus, which would be the superdrive, does not show up.
I would very deeply appreciate any hints/suggestions which do not include to send the PB back to Apple (I've got HealthCare, but need the PB daily)...

Thank you in advance for any help.
Best wishes,
Peter

Try holding the PB at an angle so that the CD slot is pointing downward. Restart and give it a slight (emphasis on slight) shake once or twice and see if the CD comes out.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Thanks for that quick suggestion. I tried it twice without success... Superdrive starts to spin, stops to spin, and PB boots normally.

ps... its me again... my gut-feeling would be that if PB recognizes the SuperDrive again, the eject-key would work... So, is there any way to reinstall a driver? Where would I get one? Would it be worth opening the PB and take a look? Maybe something disconnected...
ps, I am running OS10.3.9 (latest update) and have not installed any strange software before that happened.

This just happened with my notebook and I do not know what caused it but I just put in a Audio cd and then it did not recognize the disc and also the SD did not show up in ASP or anything. I am an aple authorized technician so I just opened up my 15 and replaced the SD because thats the only thing to do. Sorry man but you have to take your baby to a service center to get fixed.

Hope its under warranty!
