As a kid, in the late 70s or early 80s, I saw a bad SF film in the theatre. All I can remember is a scene of a space ship, with finger-like appendages, that opened and closed like a human hand. That's it.

Can anyone remember what this film might've been because I sure as hell can't.

Right. It's "You Only Live Twice".

Here is a page with stills from the movie.

"Battle beyond the stars"

Have you been touched by his noodly appendage?

Oddly enough, that movie ripped off the plot to Seven Samurai.
I think they used the same footage... as in "You only live twice."

That's not it. I definitely wasn't a Bond film.

The ship closely resembled a human hand—a blue hand—but it was mechanical. Unfortunately, that's the only image I can remember from the film.

Oh man, I thought that was it. But it wasn't. However, I saw it before I saw "Battle Beyond the Stars," so I saw the movie either in 1978 or 1979.

Anyone know of a SF film database that allows you to search by year?

Although it's not the movie your talking asking about, but one very strange sci-fi is Dark Star.

I have a similar request. I remember a sci-fi movie from somewhere around the 70's, that was something about the planet was frozen after a war or something like that. The story is about these people that went from town to town. I don't remember much more.

Could it have been a Star Trek rerun?

Ooo, David Hasselhoff's in it. It must be good, then.

BTW, how did you manage to find it?

Nice!

The ship is called the Space Claw.

There's even a Star Crash website.
http://www.pachanko.com/starcrash/

OMG, there's even a DVD of the movie,
http://www.pachanko.com/starcrash/reviews5.html

And they released a Star Crash game for the Commodore 64:

I knew it WASN'T "Battle Beyond the Stars." The only space ship like a part of a human body that I can recall is one ship that sported what looked like a huge pair of breasts...maybe I can find a picture of it.

Here is the poster for the movie:

Being a Roger Corman film, it's no wonder that breasts figure heavily (ok, pun intended) in the movie. And note Sybil Danning's character sports a top that looks remarkably like a pair of hands holding up her breasts.

If you know it isn't the movie he's asking about, why would you bring it up?

I'm sorry. I didn't realize that we had to limit the conversation to only the movie he asked about. I made a mistake. Next time I'll start a new thread.

Is it okay if I ask about the movie that I'd like to know the title of in this thread or do I need to start my own?

LOL!

The thread is called "Sci-Fi Movie Challenge," so I think any SF movie is valid.

Battle Beyond the Stars was not the best film ever made, but you can see that they put more effort into it than most crap at the time. The score was James Horner, and James Cameron worked on it.
