Should be interesting to see what develops from this; guess it's a case of trying to hit your opponent from all possible angles at the same time.

This is another Patent on the Interface, not the player itself.
For history buffs:
From MP3.com:
The Diamond Rio's false status as "the first MP3 player" is practically cemented in technology lore, so before it's too late, I want to set the record straight. The world's first mass-produced hardware MP3 player was Saehan's MPMan, sold in Asia starting in the late spring of 1998. It was released in the US as the Eiger Labs MPMan F10/F20 (two variants of the same device) in the summer of 1998, a few months before the Rio.
The biggest question for the Patent is whether or not the browsing is obvious to someone in the industry. I think organization buy artist, album, and song is obvious. That's how many people keep their files on their computer. Did iTunes1 or 2 organize it this way on the drive before the iPod came out?

This is not a case of "let's patent the iPod interface so we can extort money from Apple."
And who's to say Apple aren't licensing this patent to begin with? If it was filed before the iPod came out then Apple may have known about it and taken the proper steps to begin with.

So this patent was awarded more than four years ago and yet Creative has only just thought it would be a good idea to issue a press release about it now?
Does anyone else smell the acrid stench of desperation?

So now Apple is getting sued by Creative Technology (see http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/01/te...y/01apple.html) for using their zen patent in the iPod navigation system. And Microsoft has beaten Apple to the post in applying for a patent on the iPod interface concepts?
You have got to be joking.
What is going on here?
