High,

I have a Pismo and my buddy has a 12" G4. We're looking for second hand web cams. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I've seen some iSights for sale here on the Marketplace...

If you want one of those, I recommend it. There are threads around here concerning the iSight, and the quality compared to others.

I know this is blasphemy but are there any 3rd party web cams that work with OSX?

There's plenty, inluding from Logitech. You just have to check the system-reqs, like this one f.e..

There are lots of threads on this :

is iSight worth the money?
iSight question
Webcam recommendations

Do a search on 'webcams' and you'll find lots of threads, where the iSight and many other Mac-compatible webcams are discussed.

Note that there is no practical way to mount an iSight on a Pismo -- the included mount will not fit -- and that it requires a faster Mac anyway.

there are 3rd party web cams available. but you need to install a patch first, which enable the 3rd party web cam work with Mac.

I have the orangemicro iBot. firewire, works really well. It works great under iChat, giving max frames/sec.

iGlasses is a must have plug-in for anyone with an iSight or any webcam.

But yea, get a firewire cam. Imports right into iMovie!
