i am having a little trouble fixing my frineds imac.(500mhz indigo) the problem she is having is that the screen is considerably dark even with the contrast and brightness controls turned all the way up. apparently she awakened it and the screen was very dark, (a good example is to take a healthy imac and turn the contrast all the way down). she did not adjust any monitor settings before this happened.

i've tried restarting it, shutting it down, unplugging, i've played with adobe gamma, all the settings are all the way up and it looks close to normal.

any ideas what could have caused this and how to remedy this. there are several cases of this on the apple.com discussion boards, and reports of using a newer version of monitor controls to correct it, however the new version reports it is not for use with that computer.

very annoying to have a monitor with a mind of its own...
