Hi,
I've been trying to set the Safari-startpage in Settings/General but everytime I look the other way, the startpage returns to the original startpage-setting? I am running Safari 1.3 and OSX 10.3.9
Help will be appreciated.

Are you able to set other Safari settings and have them hold?

Could it be something with the particular webpage I am trying to set it to?
I am trying another now

"Reset Safari" and see if you can change it then.

Will resetting Safari delete all my bookmarks and other adjustments? Why should this help my problem?
Has anyone else had the same problem as me, and how was it fixed??

If you are afraid to do that, select "Empty Cache..." instead and see if that helps.

Don't reset Safari. That's drastic.

Trash the plist and empty the cache. Quit and restart.

Scroll to Safari Preferences > General.

Does it look like this?

Yes exactly, except that I use the Danish version of Safari and "same page" if that matters..
I am trying another page now and for some reason it looks like it keeps working..
This is strange!

don't use 'same page.' Choose 'empty page' and see if that works.

Well, I thought it worked anyways..
I am trying with "empty page" now, that works, the page is empty when I start Safari and when opening new windows, but when i press the "home"-button I AGAIN get the www.apple.com/startpage -page.
For some reason this particular setting just won't change, I guess I can either reinstall Safari (and all my settings including bookmarks) or just live with the problem.

Have anyone had a problem like this before? And is there another cure for this??

For the home page, leave it blank. Or type in a space. And why hit the Home button if you don't want it? Go to View > Customize Address Bar and take Home out.

Randman, sorry for not being clear enough.
I do want to choose a certain startpage. My university has a page with news and updates to the courses I follow and it would be practical if I occasionally got a glimpse of that page (or whatever page I set it to) -for instance when oppening the browser. And while surfing around the web it would be nice if the large "home"-button in the top of the window (I want to have that button!) worked and took me to the same page. I know I can make a bookmark and press that, but since there is is an option to use the "home"-button and an option to set the startpage, I just find it strange that it wont work on my system while I can choose both the "same page" and the "empty page" -settings?

Anyone else had this problem?
