My boss at work is looking at ordering an iBook, however shipping time from Apple UK is 5 days, and John Lewis's have emailed to say that the current iBook has been discontinued.
What gives?

Probably. I see that shipping on the US store has slipped to 1-3 days. If not updates, perhaps a supply problem?

Having kept my eye on the iBooks for the last month or so while getting ready to order one, I can tell you that the 1-3 day shipping period is normal. It's been that long pretty much since their update in July.
