So what are your internet connection (upload/download) speeds?

I'm supposed to be 6000 down and 800 up, but I've never broken 5000 down. I'm not complaining though. I'm happy enough considering it stays above 3000 most of the time, and the upload speed is often the speed I notice the most. 800 is not bad.

I'd almost rather have 3000 down and 1500 up though. The increased upload speed would be good for .Mac type stuff, etc.

I hear some of the Europeans have > 10 Mbps broadband now.

Connection Status
Speed (down/up): 7168 / 896 Kbps

I did a speedtest over on Speakeasy.net. Pretty good, but I'm using AirPort.

Using the Speakeasy.net test:

Download Speed: 16990 kbps (2123.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 4264 kbps (533 KB/sec transfer rate)

mmm, college

When I first moved in, it was around 38mbits. now that more people are on the network, it's not as fast. Still, I can live with 17mbits

Good for you.

It was dog slow when I lived in the college dorm. Forget buying songs from ITMS, I couldn't even preview them with the speed. Later, I got a P/T job with the local phone company and they gave me a 6 Mbps DSL connection in my dorm room.

Same here... I can't even send or receive files on AIM. The network is pretty heavily restricted. Basically anything besides HTTP and FTP doesn't work.

I got me 20Mbps in Paris, France. Had that since February through a company called Free.fr. Costs 30 Euros a month for unlimited national calls, TV with a ton of channels free via the ADSL line, and the Internet connection.

Most of the broadband offers in France are now over 10Mbps. Even AOL is at 18Mbps.

Upload Speed: 899 kbps (112.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
it's supposed to be over 4000kbps download and over 1024 kbps upload. But I guess testing the speed from Europe to the US slightly slows things down.

Rated 6000 down/800 up, I routinely get 5000 down/500 up. Moves well enough for me.

On 4MB at the moment, but we're getting bumped to 10MB and our monthly bill is going down (£15 less!).

*sigh*

I hate TDC's price-performance ratio.

2 Mbit down / 128 kbit up = 399 DKK per month. That's $65/€54/£37.

If I wanted an even slightly-okay upload speed (say, 512 kbit), with the same download speed, I'd be paying 474 DKK per month ($76/€63/£44).

If I wanted to go all out and get the 8064/512 connection, I'd be paying 799 DKK/$129/€107/£74 per month. And it even says on their site that they're making it bandwidth-based from 1 January 2006 (as opposed to being unlimited, as it is now), so you get 5 GB combined down/up per month; above that, you pay .20 DKK/$.18/€.27/£.18 per MB down- or uploaded, until you reach the limit of 1199 DKK/$193/€160/£110 per month. Jesus f*cking Christ. Greedy-ass bastards.

They're offering 24 Mbit connections here too now (different companies), but you need to have an entire building agree to sign up for it, otherwise they won't put in the cables. And living in a dorm that's being torn down in less than six months, the odds of this happening are very slim. Perhaps when I move. I can always hope.

That's a local test on my provider's network. I'm sure it'd be slower for the Europeans or people in Texas or whatever.

You can find local tests at broadbandreports.com.

P.S. Over wireless on my iBook I seem to get around 3.5 Mbps down and 0.75 Mbps up. Not bad.

Damn those Koreans, 10 Mbps is pretty standard, they can now get 100 Mbps.

When I was there, I was amazed. We (me and my gf) were watching a movie while it was still downloading. It finished after only about 10 minutes. Apparently piracy is pretty rampant over there.

Wow. How much does that cost? What are the upload speeds? Are there bandwidth caps?

Heh. I notice nobody here is on dialup. I had to deal with wireless GPRS access for a while (which is slower than dialup) and oh man I wanted to rip my hair out it was so damn slow.

A friend of mine just moved into a newly built house too with no DSL access, and I'm not sure about cable (yet). He's gonna be on dialup for a while. Ouch.

4mb down/384k up is what Comcast says (speeds not guaranteed of course).

Speakeasy.net speed test from San Fransisco, CA servers:
Download Speed: 3159 kbps (394.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 349 kbps (43.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

That's about right from the down/up speeds I usually see in Safari, Azureus, etc. I'm honestly amazed (from the poll) so many people have speeds of 6mb or above!

This is on my nominal 3Mbps down/384kbps up DSL line from SBC:

2005-10-12 20:31:26 EST: 2363 / 419
Your download speed : 2419917 bps, or 2363 kbps.
A 295.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 429744 bps, or 419 kbps.
Check the test results here

Use these sites for your speed testing-I used the NetAccess site for the above test.

Or try this site to test your connection. I got this speed
Download = 2.504 Mbps
Upload = 439.12 kbps

I can't figure out how to post a child page, or I'd have shown the actual result charts too.

Not bad at all! First we started out with a 512KB connection, then they upgrade it (for free) to 1MB and now it's 4MB - faster than the crappy connection here at work...
