My 60GB 5G is the same way.
I didn't know if this was just how it worked, since this is my first color-screen iPod.

ok this is very strange, i noticed that if i select my contacts from the address book app and directly export it as a .vcf file, and then drag it to my contacts folder on my ipod it will work, but not all of my contact pics show up, some don't even bother showing up,not sure as to why though, very odd... perha[s a bug in the ipod software? or maybe itunes?

Same here, although my Address Book contacts are sync'd with our exchange server via iSync.

No pictures, just the placeholder image. Any idea if the pictures are supported on iPod?

yes they are supported, i saw it on apple's website, also it does work for me, however, not all contacts show the pics though, not sure why, strange, has to be a problem with itunes or the ipod software, i hope they fix this!

Interesting, older iPods don't have this function.

Could the picture need to be in a certain format for it to work correctly?

Updating to 10.4.3 fixes this problem.

Yep. Though 10.4.3 killed EyeHome, it resolved this matter.

If I have 10.3.9 can I use the 10.4.3 update...or do I need Tiger first?

So, apparently that feature isn't going to work for those of us without Tiger?

I don't know. The Address Book picture sync not working correctly was apparently a bug in 10.4.2, fixed in 10.4.3. I don't know if the feature is/isn't supported in 10.3.x. Not sure if its documented anywhere or not.

The 10.4.3 update included an update to Address book.app...so...if one without Tiger had a copy of the new Address Book.app, they should be in business.
