Hello everybody!I know that many of you guys are playing WoW for a long time and i just got a copy for free from the EB Games convention in Vegas last week.I want to instal it,but i have very little experience with MMO(played Star Wars Galaxies during beta test)and i'm not really familiar with the game.Is it easy for a starter? Can i enjoy it fully without going into group quests? Is it easy to understand(abilities, races, skills, the whole thing)? Thanks in advance.

It's actually quite an easy game to pick up the basics on, and it's also fairly well soloable most of the way thru the level progression, though you do miss out on some of the really interesting instance dungeons in the game.
Oh yeah, might wanna put Ca$h's various alter egos on ignore right now. It's easiest that way....

I found WoW to be the easiest that I have played -- ie. Asheron's Call, SWG, and WoW. I solo'd a lot as my time in game is often short odd bits here and there.
Very kewl game. I play on Cenarius for the good guys - The Horde.

It's just not my style of game...i'm much more into FPS and racing games, and for that i think i'll stick with my xbox 360.I prefer to have my G5 for my FCP projects and a bit of BF 1942 that will be packed as soon as i have Call of Duty 2 and PGR3.

you'll miss out on a TON of stuff if you just try to solo through the game. it's a multiplayer game... you're meant to interact and team up with people. but i guess you've already decided you don't like it.

I have been playing for 2 weeks now and I find the game very easy. Much easier to follow quests than in Everquest, which i played years ago.

Not your cup of tea? Try actually spending some time with the game. It starts off slow and is definitely a time sink. I normally play FPS and RTS games, but found WoW to be extremely fun once I got to level 20 - which can take a week or so to do.

It's a very easy game to pick up... and a whole lot of fun. I haven't been playing a lot lately as college is in session and I don't have any free time (that I'm sober for anyway). I do have a lvl 60 hunter on the alliance side of Whisperwind... among other characters on that server...

I also have a couple of questions that I hope someone could help me out with
1. How do I take in game screenshots on my PB (which key - and where do I find the pictures afterwards)?
2. How do I minimize the screen (I don't want to exit game every time someone calls me on Skype)?
3. Which key is auto-run?
- have a nice weekend

Basement? Virgin?
Huh, that is odd. I know about 10 people who play WoW and we are:
Teachers.
Pharmacists
College Proffessor
College Students
Medical Students
Pharmacy Students
Store Manager
Interragator Trainer
An actual "rocket scientist"
Maybe the guy who made that comment needs to:
1. Grow up
2. Get an idea of the real world
3. Note that many adults like to "play". Actually, the higher the intelligence, the greater the need for play.
4. Note that we don't live in a basement, any, much less our parents.
5. Many have kids, so the virgin thing doesn't hold water.
"sigh"

I joined up about 10 days ago and am loving it. Easy to see how addictive it is. But my wife also has caught the bug and has been playing along as well. And she's doing pretty well considering it's probably the first video game she's ever played.
She plays on the Mac mini with the 19" monitor in the study (converted bedroom) and I've taken up residence on the dining room table with my PB17.
And for the record, both of us are uni grads with successful professional careers.

I just joined up yesterday, which is great since Blizzard just opened a new realm for Oceania region (I'm from Australia). I'm getting quite high latency, in the 300-450 range which is a surprise coming from games like counter-strike that *need* pings like 50 ;P
Anyway, it's really fun so far, I've died so many times (overestimating my abilities then being caught trying to flee, boo) but WoW makes dying painless (no pun intended). It's soooo pretty too . It's very easy to get into. First you choose your faction, race, gender, class, and appearance. At about level 7 you are fed some info about 'professions', so you don't need to worry about that straight away. If you choose a Hunter class (like me) then you will be fed some info about 'taming beasts' at level 8 (or so im told, im still lvl7). So you are fed info in byte ( ) size pieces, in the meanwhile getting used to combat, spells, talking to NPCs, quests, equipment, etc. So... get into it! Highly recommended.
I play WoW on my main machine, a P4-3.0GHz, 1GB RAM, 128MB 9800Pro and it's quite smooth for such an old graphics card with everything maxed out (except distance), incl. 4xAA. But I also play on my trusty old ibook. and its an old one... a g3-900, 640MB RAM, 32MB 7500. and you know... it runs it pretty darned good (everything set to minimum, but its still pretty)! the install took a very long time, but to start the game its like 10-20 seconds load time. i couldn't believe it actually. in-game i get 30 fps in small rooms, outside fluctuates a lot from 8-16 or so. So it's definately playable (at least at lower levels where you mainly fight monsters one at a time), until that upgrade you're planning
Oh btw, I'm a computer science & science graduate with comp sci honours. I actually just finished honours 2 weeks ago, and finally got around to starting WoW. I bought the game mid-year but have been putting it off due to school. For half a year it was taunting me...

Yeah, when I first saw that, I was like, "Whoa, Ca$h has certainly come around. He even sounds downright cheerful." Then I realized that Ca$h wasn't an Aussie.
Incidentally, 300 isn't particularly bad latency for WoW. I've never gone below 100, and I live in the same state as Blizzard. Bad is in the 900+ range.
Oh, and it's level 10 where you start taming beasts. Big abilities usually come at level 10. Hunters get taming, druids get shapeshifting, priests get resurrection, warriors get defensive stance.

hmmmm, dorks huh...
Well, I tell you what, I and my wife would rather be dorks and bring in a nice triple digit salary and play WoW, versus being "cool". Plus being cool really doesn't seem so important when you are 30+.....

But why keep posting in Wow threads if you don't like the game?
If you created a car thread, wouldn't you get irked if people came in every few days and starting spouting off things like
Ride a bus
Get an SUV
Get an SUV
Hondas sucks
Chevy or nothing?
One in a great while, it would be ok. People can agree to disagree but to consistently troll is very immature. My 2Ā¢.

There is a built-in screen shot key - one of the function keys, maybe F13. I don't really know where the shots are stored, however.

yeah, it's F13 and they're stored in the screenshots folder inside your WoW folder, but he's on a powerbook which probably doesn't have the F13-15 keys that the big extended keyboards have. so apple-shift-3 should do the trick.

Let's play the If Ca$h Were A Mage game.
If Ca$h were a mageā¦his ADD would kick in halfway through conjuring water and he'd start aggroing every mob in the area.
