Probably refresh your Finder by logging out and back again. Moving to the OS X forum.

Ok, I'm having the same problem. In fact, my disk space is so low--because iMovie won't really empty the trash--that I can't encode my iDVD.

Yeah, that did nothing for me either.

I'm trying disk utility now.

Well, disk utility's repair permissions seems to have helped. I've gotten back SOME space, but not all that I should. I think I have enough to burn now. Once I've burned this DVD, I'm going to try deleting in iMovie and see if it's working correctly now.

My theory is that the volume had a glitch, which disk utility has fixed, but it was too late for the iMovie projects that already had their trash files incorrectly emptied.

I will let you know what happens, but as I'll be burning at 1X, it might not be til morning.

Ok, my hypothesis seems to have been correct. Though I can't reclaim the dozen or so Gigs that I should have back by now until I delete the several iMovie projects that are going on our end-of-year compilation DVD for the grandparents, the trash is working normally now.

So I would recommend repairint permissions in disk utility. It seems to have worked for me.

Ahem, he said iMovie. iMovie maintains its own trash.
