I got a MM for $50 not too long ago, and now the scroll wheel broke. It scrolls down, but it doesn't scroll up. Is there anything I can do about it? Thanks in advance.

Yup, call apple and get them to send you a new one.
I had my second one bust on me a week ago. Both mice scroll wheels break scrolling in one direction after a few months.

Bummer. Is this like a widespread issue?

Can't answer that for you by my odds haven been horrible. I have seen a few other people on here have the same problem.

Try cleaning the scroll-ball with a microfiber cloth, or slightly dampened paper towel. Did the trick for me.

The same (lack of working) problem happens to me, it's from not cleaning the ball. I find that pressing the scroll-ball down against a rough-flat surface and rolling it around for a minute seems to get rid of any junk that's stopping it from working properly.

Happens here as well. Scrolling down has become damn unreliable. Let's hope they revise the internals before too long

I'm willing to bet these things don't make it over 1.5 years.

I brought it to work in my bag, and when I got to work it worked!
Yipee! Perhaps bouncing around in my bag helped it somehow...

I've used some isopropyl alcohol to clean the scroller ball. Fixed a stuck roller several times now.

Mine flakes out every now and again - won't scroll down. I find if I press the ball while rolling down, it'll come back to life, and then be fine for weeks...

Mine just flaked out and wouldn't scroll down. I googled and got this link and this thread! Holding the mouse upside down and rolling the ball against the mouse mat worked for me.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Not quite a double post, I wrote that in Quick Reply and the page froze, so I found the thread and the post was there but it didn't update the thread to the top of the list, so I posted this properly. (This has happened to me a few times now, and on different Mac's, must be the freaky server... )

Mines crapping out as well.. Scrolls in all directions but down now. Ive tried cleaning the ball as best I can, and it sometimes helps a bit, but not for long. Think i'll just have to exchange it.
Im not particularly impressed with it..

The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

Mine is not scrolling down again now, I've rubbed it over the mouse mat (which has worked before), rubbed it over paper (which has also worked before), pressed the ball down and blown inside the gap, and rubbed the ball with a soft cloth, and it still won't scroll down.
Not sure if this is just me or if its real, but when it stopped before, when trying to scroll down the ball has always felt kind of jerky, like there was a bit of crap stuck in there. Doing it now, its not jerky, there's hardly any resistance to scrolling down on the ball. The thing is apart from the scrolling down thing, which seems to be a common problem, its a nice mouse and I like it.
Not sure where it was bought from as it was a Christmas present, I'll still try to bring it back to life, but if it isn't sorted by the weekend I'll probably return it.

Same problem here, often won't scroll down.
Apple should really have made then clean-able ..
