I have tried it.
But it felt sluggish and did not have the features I need (Ex. Ad and Flash-block), so it landed in the Trash.

Its not actually new.
It derived from the known 'Mozilla Application Suite', or just 'Mozilla' last year, which itself derived from the Netscape Communicator codebase in 1998.

So in basis its an "old" application, with a new brand name.

I'm using Shiira, but it has some features lacking (like good auto-completion). I would use Safari, but I can't live without custom keywords. To that end, I would use Firefox, but it's a bit slow. To that end, I would use Camino, but it doesn't have context-sensitive custom keyword searching. And so on.

Shiira has spell checking.

Shiira shouldn't render any pages wrong that Safari doesn't, given that they use the same rendering engine.

I just downloaded it myself, and so far, I like what I see. The one thing I'd love to see in Shiira or Safari would be keyword shortcuts (like FF).

BTw, how do you pronounce Shiira?

I'm using version 1.2.1 right now, nice, like that it does RSS (Panther user, so that's new for me ). Only imported part of my Safari bookmarks, though, not sure why.

Yeah, I found that weird too. Due to the launch time, I'd imagine it was using the same version of Webcore. I think it was an earlier release so maybe that's been fixed.

I tried it out again but it crashed after me using it for 5 minutes. Safari never crashes with me these days. I think with Shiira being open, it has a chance to be better than Safari but if it's less stable that's not going to happen.

The 'page transition effect' seems to be really nice. How hard would be have it running with other web browsers?.

I used to try all of the browser options when Safari was new and OS X was also much younger. After a point, I just kept coming back to Safari. Now I try a lot of applications but browsers are not among them.

Your post led me to search for these shortcuts. It took me a while but, for others who may be looking for it, you get it by typing Cmd-Shift-R, or going to Window>Search Engines. I love the shortcuts!

As far as stability, Shiira has crashed two times for me, both times in the "search engines" (shortcuts) window.

I've been using it as my only browser for the last week; plan to continue using it for now. I also like having access to my Safari bookmarks.

I just started using it today and so far I really like it. I've been looking for a browser with a Safari feel but with Firefox speed, and I think that this is the one. I think it's fairly new so hopefully it will become more stable as time goes on.

It is one of four browsers I have installed and use (Safari, Firefox, Camino and Shiira). On my system is is the most unstable of the four. I get a lot of spinning beach balls and it seems that it crashes every other time I use it. Not sure why it doesn't like me. Does it like a lot of Ram? I only have 512 meg.

I liked Shiira a lot when I used it before. My only complaint was that it did not work with Keychain yet (actually, it didn't have ANY way to save passwords). This is a necessity for my browsing.

Well I'm using the latest version of Shiira now, it looks pretty good . There is a password saving feature now. Even though it doesn't integrate with Keychain, it'll work for now.

I like the page turning feature. While its not very practical (i.e. too slow), I love the eye candy. It will be nice to show off to my Winblows loving friends.

yup. it uses WebKit, same as safari. When Safari gets updated, Shiira also benefits.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

I've been using Shiira nonstop for a few weeks now, and I love it. For those who are interested, I made some icons to replace the pretty terrible default ones.

I'm using it now ... I had been using Camino, but out of curiosity I'm trying Shiira. The page turning thing is actually too fast on this machine ... I don't even notice it happening ... I was wondering if there was a way of slowing it down (I like the effect). Safari has been getting slower with each update (or has everyone else just speeding up?).

Downgrade your RAM, that will slow it down. Or we can trade machines- my page turning is plenty slow.

Its now my full time browser, I've tried everything else but there was always somthing missing (usually spell checking). I really get the feeling Shiira is better and nimpler than safari, but still feels very Mac like.

Now if Shiira had built in adblocking it would be great!

now I've dismissed shiira like every other browser - I always end up back in safari, but this one now looks amazing. Super quick and I do like the fact that I rarely need to touch the keyboard!

Heh. The page turn confused me for a little while. "It goes the wrong way!" But then it hit me that this app is made in Japan.

Oh and it seems to handle flash a darn sight better than safari - I have a goowy.com account and safari makes me die a little inside when I use it. Shiira blasts through it

i just started using shiira...and out of the four browsers on my machine (safari, shiira, firefox, and camino) its quickly trounced over firefox and camino and is REALLY close to taking over safari as my main browser. kudos to the shiira team, what a great lil browser.

(i say this knowing full well that ill probably end up using safari in three months time, heres hoping shiira comes through).
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

I like Shiira a lot, but the text box behavior drives me batty. Autofill often doesn't work and other times will fill in the wrong thing, and while data is loading, it'll keep unfocusing a text box even if you're trying to type in it.

I used Shiira for a while, until I found it saving my online banking password and card all the time. I didn't give it permission to save it, and even after removing it from my keychain, Shiira would save it again. Other than that security issue, I found Shiira to be fast.
