I have been kicked out of the IBook forum and sent over here....so here goes...

I am not Mac savvy. I have a friend that has a G3/300 and a wireless card that doesn't seem to work. Neither does the wired connection. In fact, I can't get the wired to even be awake at all (no connection at all to a Netgear router with a cord that works fine on a PC laptop). I have plundered through all the tcp/ip setting and tried to the extent of my abilities to get it working but to no avail. AOL works on a dial up...that is the only way.

Is there an online tutorial for dealing with OS 9.0 networking that anyone knows about?

Thanks

Dave

Does the link light on the Netgear router light when you plug in the ethernet cable from the Mac?

If so, try setting the TCP/IP control panel in the Mac as follows:'

Connect using Ethernet
Configure Using DHCP

There is no light. With some PCs, if you disable the connection it turns the actual device off. I was thinking the same might be happening here. I tried to do what you described and no dice....

If the link light on the netgear does not light when you connect the cable from the Mac, you either have a bad cable, the wrong type of cable, or the ethernet port on the Mac is fried.

Check that AppleTalk is set to Ethernet. OS9 has the nasty habbit of switching to the printer port.

Under theApple symbol in the upper left hand coner;
Control Panels;
AppleTalk.
