This may be a dumb question, but I'm having trouble finding an answer...

I have .Mac, Hotmail, and Jabber accounts. Is there an app that will let me chat with MSN Messenger, AIM, and Jabber users with one or all of my accounts? I don't really want to run iChat, Messenger, etc. at different times to chat with different people.

I use Adium myself, but hear good things about Proteus as well.
Might be worth a try: http://www.defaultware.com/proteus/

Adium is a very good instant messaging app. If you want to use iChat though, you can connect to a Jabber server with iChat in Tiger and via that talk to people on other services (if the server has the appropriate transports).

Yeah, I hear that it is not free

Question:

Does the free version of proteus offer support for voice messaging or video messaging with all the known mess protocols (ichat, yahoo.......) ??

Defaultware just announced that Proteus is 100% free from now on.

I use Adium, but people say proteus looks a little nicer, but is a little behind Adium in the features.

It wasn't until just recently. I believe they made it freeware last week.

Or get a jabber account on a server that has transports for those other networks.

Do any of the multi-protocol IM clients support iChat's AV features yet, à la Trillian on Windows?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
