All,

Just got a new 20" Intel iMac and need a USB 2.0 hub. Most of the standard ones I'm finding look like a turd. I was thinking about one of those fun Tiki Mac ones, but they have seem to have gone out of business.

Any suggestions? One that I am thinking about is the MacAlly one. It's a USB 2.0 and Firewire hub in one.

I have been lusting after a Kensington DomeHub. I think it's rather attractive, plus the heavy base won't slide around all over your desk as most hubs do.

I love the idea of this hub! Thanks! Quick question if I may -- the product description says it's bus powered, do you find that your iPod syncs properly over the hub? Looks like Buy.Com has a deal on it.

I don't have that hub -- yet!

The mfr specs I linked to definitely do not say bus powered, and the customer pix on Amazon show the AC adapter jack, empty and with an adapter plugged in. I'm also pretty sure the one I saw in a store once had an AC brick in the package. I seriously doubt a 7 port hub would not have a power supply!!

I sync my iPod via FireWire, so I have no idea whether syncing via an unpowered hub works or not. But again, I am certain this is a moot point anyway.

Yikes, it looks like the base for a cheap lamp.

I think this is one of the better looking ones, it looks like a Mini.

Both are bus powered, but include an AC adapter if your devices need maximum power each.

I like the DomeHub better. That Belkin one looks like a 1950s ashtray to me!

Macimum -- that's the one I think I'm leaning towards now. BestBuy has them, the 4 porter is perfect for what I need.

I ended up going with the Belkin 7 Port. It's not the sexiest thing on the planet, but it works quite well. It has 5 USB ports to the rear, and 2 up top for quick connections to my Rebel XT and USB keychain.
