Hi guys,
I sold my PM G5 1.6G early this year and at the time I think I will wait Apple roll out the new Intel Powermac, so I just grabbed a G4 Mac MINI and I think it will serve me just fine till then (I still have a iMac G5). But four monthes later I'd say I'm REALLY need to get rid off the MINI to get something FAST for my needs. Most apps I'm using are from Adobe and Macromedia, so problem number one: I can only get the native performance on their UB version when available or 50% (70% maybe ) now, or Native performance under XP with Boot Camp? Problem number two: Web browsing. I've experienced some very poor browser response at full flash and GIF heavily used websites. I'm a web designer so I need to visit these websites constantly, I've tried various browsers like Camino, Omniweb and Firefox on my G5 and MINI but they didn't helps much so I assume the bottle neck was the processor. So can any of your guys try this website: http://www.youandme.co.za/ and let me know the CPU usage please?

So should I buy a 20" iMac Core Duo now?

Any input will be appreciated.

UG.

System usage on load is about 12%. Once the animation starts it hovers around 38% - 45% at most. My machine is a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25 GHz. Using Camino as a browser.

I have an Intel iMac 20-inch at home. I will test that when I get home. Anything other browsers you want me to try?

Using Safari on iBook 1.42 GHz: Usage on load, about 10%. Hovered around 15% while loading and during the early part of the animation. Once the full animation kicked in, it bounced between 27%-35%, spiking up to around 45% at times.

Thanks for the results but look what I got on this website with Safari (screen shot with Active Monitor):

Test was done on my Mac MINI which has a overcolocked 1.5Ghz G4 processor and loaded 1GB of RAM, system is Mac OSX Server 10.4.6. CPU usage about the same on Tiger.

Buy the 20" Core Duo iMac if you think waiting for the second rev of the PowerMac is the best decision. Otherwise, since you already have a monitor and everything else you need, buy a new 1.66 Core Duo Mac Mini.
iMac G4 15" 800/512MB/60GB
iMac G5 20" 1.8/768MB/160GB
Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66/2GB/80GB
Mac Pro 2.66/X1900/3GB/3TB /Apple 23" Cinema HD Display
