i made the mistake of buying an HP laptop cause my uni said id need it. needless to say 10months on i want to smash it to pieces - windows is awefull - so i need a new laptop but dont know what
the macbooks look ace but far to expensive and i want bigger than a 12" powerbook which is apples only offering in that line these days
i was thinking of an old clamshell but id want it to be faster than 466mhz and it seems as if its not possible to alter that.

what would you suggest i do?

For web surfing, paper writing, etc. A new iBook would suit your needs just fine. Really, just about any Apple laptop made in the last 4 or 5 years work for just that. I would say get a PB G4 or an iBook G4.

Open cd drive.
Insert copy of Ubuntu.
Erase hard drive.
Install Ubuntu.

New laptop.

Personally, I don't care for ubuntu. But it has the advantage of being completely free. They will even ship you a copy for free.

Yeah, Linux is great. FREE. FREE. Did I mention it's FREE? And it will make even a shitty HP laptop like a new computer.
