I have a Gen 3 (maybe? It's the one with the backlit buttons above the scroll wheel) and let me say, it's seen a fair share of abuse. Currently, it's really slow to turn on. After I push the button, the apple logo comes up for maybe 20-25 seconds before it's actually usable. Also, I have a loud buzz when it's on. I thought it was the sound of the hard drive spinning, but it gets louder and softer as I change the volume. I'm not really sure what it is, but it's moderately loud, very annoying to people on planes, and I can't even use my microphone with it to record my double bass playing because it's so loud that it gets picked up by the microphone and drowns my playing out.
I feel like it's time for a new IPod, but do you have any idea what could be up with this one? I'll probably end up waiting for the next generation to buy, and I'm in no rush, but if this is something, fixable, I would like to do it to make this one function correctly.
