I have 10.4.6 on a MacBookPro 1.83GHz 2GB RAM.

The "mds" process is constantly taking up 30-40% of the CPU. I have tried:

sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/MyHD
sudo mdutil -E /Volumes/MyHD
sudo rm -fr .Spotlight-V100

At this point it of course used 0% since it is off, but turning it back on with:

sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/MyHD

It goes right back to 30-40% and has been so even after 8 hours of leaving it run by itself.

I want my CPU back!
