I've been using Terminal for FTP connections, but I have come across an issue I can't find the solution to.

How can I 'get' a directory? Using the get command seems to only work on files, and the mget command doesn't seem to work either.

mget works fine. You need to give it a wildcard to expand, like mget images/*

If it bugs you about "do you want to download blah?" then turn off the prompts by entering prompt. Or do like I do and add alias ftp='ftp -i' to your ~/.profile.

First of all, this belongs to the Unix forum.
As for the question, use ncftp insead of ftp, you can get whole directories including subdirectories with more shell-like command options such as -r for recursive get/put.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
