Installing Win XP Pro SP2 from a CD in a new VM. Win Setup starts and then and dies, saying that:

File i:\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.
The error code is 7
Setup cannot continue. Press any ket to exit.

Any see this or know of a workaround?

A second attempt yielded the same general message but the error code was 512 instead of 7.

I had the same problem and I found the solution on the Parallels forums (http://forum.parallels.com/thread2013.html). You need to create a .iso disk image and load XP using that. The Parallels software can create the image for you. I don't remember the details but it's in the documentation.

Cool, thanks. That thread link didn't work, but i did create an ISO image and set the default CD drive to be that image.

Gave it a whirl again and it started to work, but never finished inspecting the hardware configuration (gave it a half hour or so to do that). Oh well. Killed it for now; will just stick with Boot Camp.
