Title says it all... changing the Apple Menu Icon under OS 9.04.
I've searched everywhere for this, but no luck... ResExcellence only has 8.5...
And it doesn't work with 9.04...
So I mucked around with it myself, replaced the pic in ics8 (ResEditing the System) and its masks and all that, and still shows up.
So I thought it must be the icns thing (so maybe the 8.5 instructions do work), but the app they tell you to use is stuffing up.
This bit should be in the 3rd party soft. forum I know, but its pretty dumb cutting up a post, and its predominantly System stuff...
I can't get the app, clip2icns, to see my clipboard data... it recognises their example files, but not mine!!
Anyone had any exp/success with changing OS 9's Apple Menu icon?
TIA

I'm not sure how to hack it with ResEdit, but if you're just wanting a solid color apple to match your computer, try this.

All this time, I thought all you had to do is to use ResEdit to edit the System Suitcase...
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

Now that you mention it, yes it can be done in ResEdit. I didn't have time earlier to look for the resource. You want to edit ics8 resource number -16386. You may also need to edit the corresponding ics4, if you use lower than 8 bit color.

Tony

BTW this is based on the 8.6 system file.

Yeah, thats what I tried first, no luck.
I edited ics8 and 4, and the masks for the Apple Menu.
I'll keep trying though... anyone used Clip2icns before and had the same probs as this?
I don't think it has anything to do with the icns resource, but the article at the bottom of this post says it did in 8.6, so...

There's a shareware CP that changes it to a solid color (iMac colors) and also changes the trash can. I can't recall it's name but I have a copy of it at home. Email me if you'd like it.

Gordy,
It's called iMacolor. That's what my earlier post links to.

Cipher, have you tried restarting with extensions off after editing the ics8 resources? Maybe there's a extension that's overriding the system file.

No, I haven't tried that - will do
I'm just thinking maybe the icon is coming from somewhere else... OS ROM? MacOS Resource file?
Changing the System file seems to have no effect...
Oh well, I'll keep mucking around with it, and keep y'all posted.

EDIT: They wouldn't have put it in the data fork would they, leaving the resource fork version as a decoy? Devious bastards...
