Hey guys, I just got my MacBook today, and I'm having a serious problem. My Macbook is telling me there is no battery installed?!
At the top of the screen where there is a picture of the battery, mine has an "X" through it?!
As soon as the power adapter is disconnected, the Macbook turns off! I just got the Macbook today, what would cause this? Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something?!
Thanks!

Turn off the MacBook, take the battery out, clean the contacts with a cloth on both sides, reset the PMU, reseat the battery, and then calibrate it according to the instructions in the manual.

If it still doesn't work, call Apple, or simply take it back to the store (if bought from a physical store).

Mine is doing that too (the Xed battery icon thing). Although I just got my macbook back from applecare for a dead logic board. So I was thinking it was related to that since they replaced my logic board and gave me a new battery. Lets work thru this together...

1) Does your battery when installed in the macbook flash 1 light when you press the button on the bottom near the status lights?

2) Can someone with a owrking battery conform that the 1 blinking bottom light is what happens when the battery is dead?

3) Can you get it to wake from sleep when its not connected to AC power? Before my battery died completely I couldn't. This is how I initially noticed the problem at all.

Furthermore I reset the PMU by removing the battery and holding the macbook power button for 5 seconds. That didn't do anything.

Yea, without the Power adapter, it won't do anything! When the MacBook is on and I unplug the power adapter, it shuts right down. I talked to AppleCare, and their gonna send me a new battery!
