This is a minor issue that has bugged for a while so I finally decided to take a screenshot and ask for opinions... why are some words not smoothed as well as others? Note that his happens all the time... and has nothing to do with the actual words themselves.

It's probably just you, Misha.

I have never noticed the problem, but only because I don't use font smoothing. I find that it slows down the computer tremendously, especially my Rev. B iMac. My G3 450 handles it pretty well, but if you want a speed boost, especially redraw, just turn it off.

You took that screen shot from IE 5 didn't you? That is a bug in IE 5 not the Mac OS. I have seen it on my machines from time to time.

Yep, IE 5... thanks for the heads up. I only use font smoothing for fonts 14 points and up. That way you get the smoothed effect when you need it, without hurting general performance (since 12-point is used everywhere).

Of course, ever since IE 5 CNN's page displays 14 point fonts (even though my default is 12 point) and just looks crappy all around, but what can you do... it is the best all-purpose browser.
