If WebObjests were to go open source would it have a fighting chance to become a major player amongst the other technologies like JSP and PHP?

There's already an open-source clone out there called GNUStepWeb, but it doesn't seem to have fared all that well. I doubt the story would be any different if the "real" WebObjects were to go open-source.

In another discussion I've heard the developing WO with tools based on Eclipse/Java, does have some merits. Some of the other developers are also highly recommending RoR any comments on those?

I've heard good things about Ruby on Rails (RoR), and my webhost does offer it. Maybe I'll try it out.
