Yes I ordered my 2.66/x1900/bluetooth Mac Pro on August 7th (the night of the announcement) and it still says ship by September 12th. ><

Nothing worse than seeing other people already got theirs when you're already anxious to get it!

Well, I've been working on migrating all of the data off my G5 and power book to this thing, and so far (4) hours into it, I'm about 1/2 way! :wall:

I hope to be able to put pics up tonight, maybe tomorrow if I don't get the time... but let's just say.. so far from what I've seen, I'm most pleased!

Wow. First time I've been this glad to be wrong. Guess what arrived today?

Yes, I am typing this from the monstermachine. Currently I'm waiting for migration assistant to do it's job. 5 hours and 11 minutes left? Does that sound right to anyone?

(The initial bootup assistant failed because of a missing file??, Now I have half a user account and have to migrate to a renamed account. Grrrr.)

Hey congrats. I think you might be the first one in Australia to get an X1900 system.

In regards to migration assisant, if you're migrating from a PPC machine, you may want to abort it. That's been known to cause conflicts.

What sort of conflicts? Will I be better off copying everything over manually?

(I've set up an emergency admin account in case the migration has failed).

Well one user on the Apple forums was using the migration assisant and his ability to use different drive bays just went nuts. He thought it was a problem with bay 3, but upon moving the hard drives around, the problem got worse. It turns out he had used migration assisant to transfer about 5 PPC machines worth of stuff. He did a clean install and his problems went away.

I'll try to dig up the thread, but from that report as well as others, it's best to avoid migration assisant if a PPC machine is involved.

EDIT: Sorry forgot the last part. For regular files (movies, music, text files, images etc), yeah you can just drag those over mnaually.

I find that somewhat specious. I can't think of any rational way that transferring a user account with Migration Assistant would cause "conflicts."

The longer I sit here and wait the more frustrated I get. My order can still be cancelled. I'm beginning to think they will have to delay my ship date.

Ordered mine on 7 Aug...still waiting. I called Apple to kindly bitch about others who ordered a system with the x1900 well after me, getting their orders. I was hoping to get a free upgrade on the shipping...didn't work, all they said was "I'm sorry, I can't speed up the production of your computer".

Oh well...I guess I'll keep waiting.

Odd that you've ordered when you did and are still waiting.. Maybe that friend I have working in Apples design dept had some pull after all

a bit OT,

I was actually surprised (pleasantly) to see that they're being "Assembled" in the USA.. Very good of Apple to keep SOME Jobs here in the US! The components are mostly made in Singapore, and Malasia with the processors also made in the USA I believe.

Alright. On my second try (wipe and reinstall) of migration assistant everything seems to be working. My keychain needs updating everywhere and it appears that I have to reinstall the Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Studio *sigh*

I also called this morning to complain. She assured me they ship in the order they are received. I disagreed and tried to point out examples.

Her response: then the ones that shipped must not be customized.

I didn't get anywhere so I gave up. It feels better if you at least try.

I like the fact that I saved $100 on the MacPro and $250 on the iMac without even knowing it... Apparently there was a price drop on the X1900XT and the iMac 17" recently.. I doesn't get better than that!

I called Apple again and pointed out how an identical system (except for a wireless mighty mouse vs. a wired mighty mouse) shipped and it was ordered a week after mine. They apologized, told me they didn't understand why, and upgraded my shipping to two-day shipping.

Wow. I guess I'm kind of unenthusiastic since they'll probably miss my ship by date entirely now.

I thought about doing that Alligator, difficult choice since I'm just north of where they're building and shipping the BTO systems out of. I figured it's best to just stay where I'm at... hope I made the right choice. LOL Find out Wednesday (best estimate Aple could give).

I just had a very upsetting experience with 1-800-MY-APPLE. So I called to inquire why orders that were placed on the first day, or within the first few weeks the Mac Pro were announced still haven't shipped while more recent orders have shipped. I also explained that new CTO orders with the x1900 card only have to wait 3-5 days, whereas I'm still showing about a 2 week wait.

She was clearly unknowledgeable. She kept insisting that because when you order a product when it first comes out, demand on the parts are high and the wait is longer. I said, fine, but why is it that when the x1900 card does become available, it goes into a later order than the earlier orders that have already been waiting for several weeks? She gave me the same answer. So I put it in terms she could understand, "I feel like I've been waiting in line for 3 weeks, and some guy just comes and gets to go to the head of the line and pick up his computer while I'm still stuck here waiting."

Then, she admitted that she could try to make up something good (hopefully better than the BS she tried to feed me), but she doesn't know. At that point, she was clearly getting upset, although she claimed to "understand."

All she could offer me was faster shipping, which of course Apple would charge for. I again said, I don't care about faster shipping, because if Apple would only ship out their orders by priority I would probably have gotten my computer already.

I asked to be transferred to someone who could tell me what's up. She said, sure. Transferred me to a Specialist. And I was soon after disconnected.

What kind of morons do they have working customer support?

So I called again, got connected with a different representative, made it clear another rep has already given the run around, quickly explained the situation to her. She offered me expedited shipping at no charge. Fair enough.

Apparently ones like you. Why are you such an ass? You're chewing out somebody who is hired out by a temp agency which is hired by Apple. Their job is to take orders for computers, not personally search the manufacturing facility for your computer. The person you spoke with is so disconnected from Apple that she probably doesn't know what an x1900 is. It's not her fault, she's not expected to know the ins and outs of the system, only enough to take customer orders and answer basic questions is an efficient way. You clearly don't understand how these things work. She was probably frustrated because she's been dealing with jerks like you all day. "Where's my computer, waaaaa, I WANT MY COMPUTER NOW!!!! WAAAAAA" I have a feeling karma is the reason why your precious computer is delayed.

Look MovieCutter, I did not levy an attack towards you and your personal attack against me is unwarranted.

Are you yourself an Apple customer service representative? Are you related to someone who is? If you are, and even if you aren't, pay attention to the title: Apple Customer Service.

The reason I'm being an "ass" is this: I paid for a $3700 computer now four weeks ago that I'm still not enjoying today even when people who ordered after me have received their computer. I did not expect special treatment and I didn't mind the wait, but I do expect Apple to recognize a time honored custom of first-come, first serve. Where's the fairness (or even efficiency) in keeping a backlog of early orders just to fill more recent orders first? And if no one says anything to Apple or their representatives, you can expect this disregard to their customers to continue.

If you haven't clearly read my post, I ask you to again. I did not say, nor did I call to chew out some poor representative. If I didn't mention it before, I called on an unrelated matter and took the opportunity to inquire about the status of my order and try to get some answers regarding the priority Apple is building and shipping their CTO orders.

I would have been fine with a cursory "I'm sorry, but I don't know." Instead, the first customer service representative I spoke with chose to make up some lame story about how because early orders on new computers face high demand on parts, early orders face long waits. Of course, in light of recent posts, I called her on this and asked why when those parts are finally available they don't go into earlier orders but rather later orders? She continued to insist on her explanation until she finally admitted she was making things up and that she didn't know anything.

Even if she has been dealing with insistent customers all day, who may rightly be wondering why their order hasn't shipped yet when latter orders have, it's certainly not in her job description to make up stories and spread misinformation just to avoid these customers.

And, as a customer on the phone with Apple, surely I have the right to speak with a manager or someone higher up.

How am I being a jerk when I am well within my rights as a customer? And how am I being a jerk when I choose to call BS on a story that makes no sense that I feel is being fabricated just because some representative doesn't want to deal with customers who are part of her job?

I really miss the days when you could call Apple and buy a Mac from a guy who knew Macs, owned one and could actually talk intelligently about it.. these days you don't even get that with their tech support much less their retail sales (in-store and on-line)

Amen brother!!!

Still waiting here...ordered on the 7th right after the keynote...I have been a loyal Apple Customer since 1987. This is not the kind of support I am used to with Apple. Like you, I don't mind waiting, but I hate Johnny come latleys getting their order before me.

Oh well....I'll suck it up, I suppose.

A little off topic, has anyone recieved an X1900 upgrade kit yet? My ship date is of course a month away (ordered it recently) even though it says 5-7 days for a new order. I'm not in a real rush, but I am curious what people's experiences are.

I ordered minutes after the keynote on August 7th, was given an estimated ship on or before Sept. 12th (tomorrow), and still have not received a shipment notification. My status is still at "Has Not Shipped". The order hasn't been cancellable since about last Thursday, however. I think If I don't see a shipment notification tomorrow, then I'll go ahead, call apple, and see if they will give me free expedited shipping.

I just received an email from Apple notifying me that my Mac Pro has shipped. It should arrive, with 2 day delivery, on September 14.

I originally placed the order on August 15 and it was expected to ship on September 19. I had pretty much given up hope it'd ship earlier.

I truly hope those who ordered on Aug. 7 and before me are getting theirs shipped as well. It's terrible the way Apple's handling these orders.

I received mine earlier today. I got 2 Day, but since they're shipping them out of Fullerton, it just had to make a short drive to LA and was put out for delivery today, so it was basically overnight.

This is one amazing system, so quiet it's hard to believe. And the amount of heat it puts out is pretty amazing by itself, hardly any warm air coming off the Xeons and RAM. Fair amount coming out of the X1900 when I push it, it's about as warm or slightly warmer than the air coming out of my Core Duo Mini.

The hard drive installation is spectacular, you just screw the drives in and slide them back in. It's so efforless, ikt's amazing.. well okay I'm coming from a G5, and installing or removing drives with that was pretty hard.

Mine finally shipped on the estimated day, but Fed Ex screwed up and shipped it via "ground" instead of 2-day. Apple was nice about it and gave me a $50 credit for Fed Ex's mistake. Still, I have to be the last person on the planet to get my Mac Pro even when ordered it at 1 p.m. the day it was announced.

Mine also shipped yesterday via FedEx Ground out of Fullerton. It's out for delivery as of now, since it only had to travel 60 miles.

I'm just lucky mine will come by Friday. Apple's estimate had it coming on Monday - but at least Fed Ex's ground shipment is a little faster than Apple's estimate.

I also picked up 2GB RAM from Crucial yesterday for $499. They finally had them in stock. Set to arrive the same day as the Mac Pro.

So I got mine today(Thursday) which is great but I seem to have been lucky enough to get a broken one. Specifically the x1900xt I think. When I turn on the computer I get no picture and the fan on the x1900xt is kicking at full blast and doesn't stop. Monitor works. I did the pram and reseated ram, but no luck. I hear the computer say "english" so I am assuming it boots and the first question is language selection but no luck yet on seeing it.
