icons moving around - HELP!

I have my icons in a particular arrangement that is suited to exactly meet my needs, but when i use a program that changes the resolution (eg Virtual PC) it moves them around and i have to move them back. is there a solution to this? thanks.

Do this:
1: Put all your icons where you like them.
2: Crank open the Script Editor.
3: Go to the Finder and select all.
4: Go back to the Script Editor and hit the "Record" button.
5: Now click anad hold on one of your icons and very gently move it away and then back and release.
6: Go back to the Script Editor and hit "Stop".
The Script Editor will now list all the icons and their positions. Save it as a Classic Applet w/o startup screen and you're done.
Keep it in your starup folder or assign it to a F key or both!

I tried exactly what you said and i get this error when running the script:
This window is the wrong kind (e.g. pop-up vs. normal) to use this command.
My icons include aliases, folders, two drives including startup, trash, and a desktop printer. Why am i getting this error?

there's also an option in preferences of several of the emulators (including virtual pc (at least versions 3 and 4) of whether to adjust the mac video resolution to accomodate a specific image resolution called for by the app (like the win 95/98 startup screen). i've found it easier to deal with the mini startup screen than icons all over the place and my control strip (extensions strip) in the middle of the screen, so that gets turned off.
after trying several commercial utilities, eventually stuck with the desktop icon manager applescript as well... small footprint and works very well (only it tries to "remember" your original settings by setting flags in the script on the first run, so it's good to keep a fresh copy on hand for modified desktop icon settings).
