how do I capture the entire contents of a window?
I need to capture a very long window that extends well out of the screen.

you might try using print2pict to print the window to a file. sure beats taking snapshots and trying to line them up.

no print command available from the app. that I need to capture from.

screen catcher will do it, it has an auto-scroll feature.

Snapz Pro from Ambrosia can capture windows, menus, portions, and of course the whole screen.
You can also select what file format you want, including QuickTime Movie.

There's a screen capture thing built into the system. To capture the contents of an entire window, while caps lock is down press command-shift-4, and click somewhere in the window. Other screenshot commands: without caps lock, press command-shift-4 to drag the mouse over the area you want selected, or press command-shift-3 to take a shot of the whole screen.
[Edit: I just tried this, and apparently it won't capture anything that extends off the screen. Whoops. Never mind.]
