i posted this question in the G3/G3/Cube forum since
i have a G4, but i'll ask here too.
please help, this is very strange.
there's one partition in my sawtooth that acts funny.
the other 2 bootable partitions work normal.
in this one problem partiton,
i can't move any folders or files from their original positions .
i.e, i can't move any folders or individual files around on the desktop or into another folder in the hard drive.
they just spring back to where they were.
now i CAN drag and drop docs/folders into applications aliases,
and the processing works fine.
i got no fix after
disk first aid,
desktop rebuild,
finder prefs trash,
disk warrior rebuild.
also zapped pram.
i scanned the whole hard drive with virex, nada.
but perhaps i don't have the latest update.
march...maybe april is the latest update if i remember correctly.
than you for any helpful suggestions or diagnosis,
twyla.

what os are you running??
check finder preferences, "view options"...
is "snap to grid" chosen?

hi fisherking,
running OS 9.1
finder prefs > general:
"grid spacing" has 2 radio buttons:
tight (more items)
or
wide (neater arrangement)
neither button has any effect on the "stuck" problem.
and there's no "snap to grid" under "Views"
i remember that this "snap to grid" existed under an older OS but it's not here.
thanks anyway.

There has been some recent reports of drag and drop problems with CarbonLib 1.3.1 - http://www.macfixit.com/archives/may...l#carlib-05-14
Don't know if this is the same as your problem, but they suggest going back to CarbonLib 1.2.5
Hope this helps.

i also run 9.1
try this:
cmmd-J, from the finder, brings up
"view options"
(also available under "view" menu, not edit (prefs)
desktop icons, should be "none" (as opposed to "snap to grid")
try this!

yaaaaay!!
thank you, c-eye,
that carbonlib 1.3.1 update was the culprit!!
as soon as i went back to 1.2.5, problem was gone!!
thank U also fisherking, for the cmd-j hint.
i was wondering where the snap to grid option was.
twyla.
