Whilst this is not the typical macnn topic i need people's help because i am stressing.A couple of hours back we had pest control done for bird lice and i enhaled some of the following Home Page whilst i enhaled the permethrin briefly i am stressing after googling it and reading its neurotoxicity. The pest control guy said its safe and everyone uses it but i wouldnt trust him since he spoke broken english.I called the poison line about 20 minutes ago and they said ignore what is says online and i should be fine.I called them because i could still taste it in my mouth and i had some tight breaths.I was at the DR a couple of hours after it was sprayed and i didnt ask thinking i wouldnt be this stressed.Anyone on here who works in pest control be able to alieviate my fears?

Thanks

I believe that permethrin is also in RAID isn't it? I'll look when I get home. I've inhaled it a number of times(not deliberately) with no side effects.

Dude, I used to eat that crap every day, along with DTE by the handful. I spent 5 years with my lungs so full of that crap, it's not even funny (it is, actually, but anyway...).

SO, unless you're just a frakking wuss, you ought to be fine.

Permethrin is the generic form of Elimite. Commonly used to treat scabies and lice. The cream, in a 5% concentraion, is applied from head to toe and left on overnight, to be washed off the next day. The only caution is to avoid application to the eyes and mouth. Breathing it's vapors should not be harmful.

I think your tight breathing is due to being a hypocondriac, and nothing else.

You'll be fine.

It's like anything else, just take it in moderation.

If you ever read Exterminator!, the protagonist used to eat that stuff to get high. Maybe you should just put on some tunes, chill out and wait for the visuals to kick in...

I am a toxicologist that works with pesticides - don't worry about it. You may have a little tight breathing, but that is most like from the "inerts" in the spray. Neurotoxicity from exposure may occur, but typically only does so at very high doses. No need to stress.

My mistake

To much of anything inhaled isn't good for you.

After working all day sawing Mahogany I developed a rather nasty respitory infection for a few days. Now I wear masks always.

Finger tips, lips and tongue tip tingling are typical signs of neurotoxicity beginning to have an effect. They're also typical signs of the beginning of hyperventilation. The stuff they used is safe for people and pets to be around immediately after application, but I wouldn't roll around in it.

Take a walk outside and get some fresh air. You should be fine.
