Specifically looking at around 200Gig of storage. Would like a site that offers free photo gallery quality templates. Tired of doing everything in Dreamweaver right now and I'm running out of space.

What are people using these days?

Thanks!!

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Well, if you need a host that actually works, you're going to have to pay more than DreamHost's unrealistically low prices.

Well, doesn't matter for me.
Dreamhost is my personal online backup server.
If I can't access it for a couple of hours, it's not the end of the world.

No, I used them once and they were terrible. They also murdered my brother and threw eggs at my girlfriend's house.

Um, thanks guys. I, too, heard not so great things about Dreamhost, but they are affordable and they give you alot of space.

Anyone use GoDaddy?

Dude, Dreamhost had some issues earlier this year, but you REALLY want to stay away from GoDaddy. They suck much more than DH.

From what I hear, you are NOT trying to run your business on this website. DH is just fine. For your personal pc collection, you don't need guaranteed 99.99% uptime.

I installed a Gallery 2 site on my Dreamhost account and it was unbelievably slow. Upwards of 30 seconds per page load. I emailed support about it and they said there was nothing they could do and that the Gallery 2 software is very intensive. If you want to use Gallery 2, I would definitely stay away from Dreamhost.

I can count the amount of problems I've had with Dreamhost on one hand, and I've been a customer since 1998.

So, if it's the software, how would using a different hoster make a lot of difference ?
Or do you think DH support just doesn't know any better ? In my experience, their support is quite solid for a budget hoster like them.

I just moved to Dreamhost from iPowerWeb. Dreamhost offers more features at a better price. Happy so far.

If you do decide to go with Dreamhost, enter 0zm0diar and it'll waive the setup fee (or if you go with a plan that doesn't have a setup fee it will take $50 off the the bill).

Host it yourself. Turn on personal web sharing and/or FTP and/or SSH. Get a DyDNS account. Configure your router. Get a 200GB HDD. Enjoy. It is what I do. You could end up with an angry letterin the mail from your ISP, though.

Works especially well if you want to keep online backups of your local files
