I'm just curious cuz i had to set mine to the lowest. My eyes were getting tired after an hour when set at anything higher.

Not a 24", but my iMac 17" is set at its lowest, and at night, I still find it too bright, I often activate dashboard with no widgets if reading long web pages to dim the screen.
Though I do wish there was a control on the Apple remote to increase brightness, as when i use front row, I like to have my screen at full brightness.

Are you guys kidding? You set your brightness at 25%, and even at te lowest setting?!? You're eyes are going to go bad.
I keep my 17" a mere 1 from the highest!

Have you seen the 24" screen? The brightness on that thing is ridiculous. Even set at the lowest setting you still get a very bright screen. At the highest, I get a headache after a while of staring at it.

I have heard that people are having trouble calibrating these displays (using hardware calibration equipment) because the screen cannot go dim enough.

This will be a big problem for photographers.

Once I got my 24" I did the same thing and set it to the lowest setting. But moved it back up to show off to some friends and never put it back, now I got used to it.

I could see that being a problem for sure. I find that I wish I could adjust the contrast on those displays. It would help with calibration a ton.

Is the 24" really that much brighter than, say, a 17" G5 (iSight)? I always have backlight cranked up all of the way, except when watching DVDs.

I like readability above all, except for DVDs, where I want color reproduction. On CRTs I do the whole calibration thing, because there are 10 different ways for your picture to look just a little bit off.

Kept mine around 70% when I first got my 20" in February b/c it seemed WAY too bright at 90 or 100%. However, after close to nine months, I usually keep it just 2 notches below the top. I hope it's just my eyes getting used to it, and not the bulb dimming.

There's no bulb, and the backlight don't dim.
