Is it possible to upgrade the Original Macbook to a Core 2 Duo?

no. the processors are soldered in (ie - permanently fixed) for both the macbook and macbook pro. the only macs that can their processors upgraded are the mac mini and imac (possibly mac pro, but not sure)

If you are into soldering and taking you MB completely apart, you could probably upgrade it. Just get some RAM.

a much simpler solution would be:

1. buy a new one

2. sell the old one

IS it really worth if for the maybe 10% extra raw speed??? I'd be too worried about ruining my MacBook.

IMHO, if you have the Core Duo MB it is NOT worth it to upgrade to the 2.0 Core 2 Duo now. The performance difference is minimal AND the MacBook has no new features. Furthermore, the new Core 2 Duo will run a tad hotter and have slightly shorter battery life.

If you are mainly using your MacBook for simple photo management - iPhoto - simple music - iTunes and email / yada yada, getting a new Book now does not make a ton of sense...unless you SIMPLY MUST HAVE THE LATEST AT ALL TIMES.

i'll have to respectfully disagree with you. the new macbook has a faster superdrive that can now burn dual-layer disc. powerpage.org has an article detailing how the c2d runs cooler than the core duo.

the price to upgrade memory to 2gb is so much cheaper. it is surprising. it is almost inline with current market prices.

masugu, take a closer look at the macbook page in the applestore, there are more differences than you think

Thanks Uicandrew. Ooops...Did not see the drive news. Well, I hope that C2D runs cooler...I thought I heard some MBP guys here griping about heat. Hope I am wrong there.

At anyrate tho...selling your machine now / getting a new one still might not be worth it for the changes...but perhaps when the speed bumps get closer to 3 GHZ and/or more features are added

Just thought I'd ask. Wasn't planning on it unless it was possible. Well then again some of the upgrade makers might have an upgrade to the C2D
