Hehehe, naw, I'm just a little dry on sig ideas right now, so I might as well do some variants. I think it's kinda funny. I've got at least one more homage left in me.
If you can't tell, where your sig has Stars, I put 'Kars' in mine.

Odd. I bought TimeSplitters for the GameCube and while I was playing it on my Wii it froze with a very annoying continuous tone. Is this normal? Does this happen on the GameCube/Wii often or one in a while? The game is new.
Also, when I plugged my Wii back in after two days of having it unplugged (I'm rearranging the electronics) I heard a noise I hadn't heard from it before. It stopped after a while. Actually, it might have been doing some behind the scenes crunching, as the sound was not dissimilar to that of when a Mac crunching away. has anybody else noticed this? Otherwise it is pretty quiet except for the low hum of the fan.

I've not heard of this happenning on the Wii before, but I've seen it on my DS with certain GBA games. The tone you're hearing is probably whatever frequency the speakers were putting out before the crash.

Was a disc in the Wii at the time? I ask because if there's no disc, then the only thing inside the Wii that should be moving at all is its fan, and fans aren't known for making that type of noise.

Good, I haven't played it in a few days as I absolutely hate collecting those bugs and it just feels like busywork to extend the gameplay. The game is also very PG now so i hope it gets darker.
Minor spoiler:
I did play the flying part which is controlled by the Wiimote by pointing. Definitely beyond a doubt it wasn't better or more accurate than an old school controller probably because it was using IR and not motion controls.

I love that it was like 3-5 frames long too. Made for some interesting maneuvers.
Edit: I know this is out of bounds, but god knows what mojoab would say if he saw what we 'youth' did back in the day.

Yes, that would seem to be the case. I hope this won't be a common occurrence, however.

There was a disc in, but it really didn't sound like the disc drive to me. It sounded more like the sound a computer makes when it is crunching numbers (that is, when the processor is pretty busy)-- which is what I meant by "crunching", as I now realize that that might have led itself to misinterpretation.

Computers make no noise when they are "crunching". The only thing in a computer that makes noise are the fans, cdrom drive, and the harddrive(s). If something is loading, you might hear the cdrom or harddrive spinning, but the cpu or "computing" components make no sound. Or, if the system is doing extra work, the fans may spin faster making a noise.

Never had anything like that happen on the cube, but I did read a blog article about a Wii kiosk that had frozen up with exactly this symptom (a continuous tone, which was probably whatever sound was in memory when the system froze). Hopefully not a common occurrence.
Also, when I plugged my Wii back in after two days of having it unplugged (I'm rearranging the electronics) I heard a noise I hadn't heard from it before. It stopped after a while. No idea what you mean by this. What sound does a computer make when it is "crunching"?

Think he's referring to hard disk noise and by crunching he means thrashing... but the Wii doesn't have a hard disk so... ?

I like the little nod to Mario Paint that Nintendo has in the picture channel on the Wii. When you erase doodles you've done, you get the little rocket that flies up and clears the image, Mario Paint style. I freakin' love Mario Paint.

There's a video floating around that shows the Wiimote being used to control Half Life 2, on a MacBook Pro. it isnt using the pointing function (IR), just the accelerometers. and it's friggonnn sweeeett. the controls havent been thought through, but just to see that it is possible is quite cool. And since there is no "pointing" involved , and the cursor movement is all relative, it pretty much handles like a mouse.
I think i saw it on Go Nintendo - What are you waiting for?
Cheers

I think so. I haven't tried it yet, but I know the software bound Wii button presses with keys, so it should work.

Evidently so. He has an "Activate Front Row" button.
I wonder if it would work well as a mouse. How sweet would that be?

Press the C button (top one on nunchuck) to go into a freeform camera mode. There's an item that works very well with this feature.

Funny thing is that I was wishing the swimming mode would have let me use that feature. It's fun once you get the hang of it.

Just tried the Wii out for the first time. holy-friggon-crap it actually works. i just played Red Steel for 5 minutes...first impressions:
graphics = GCN X 1.5
controls:
will take about 30 minutes to get used to....but they work almost exactly the way a mouse does. having never actully used a "remote" as a gamepad, it's a little weird finding the buttons on there.... but im not a "hardcore" gamer anyway.
The ergonomics are awesome.
more to come later...
Cheers

Even if Nintendo hadn't filed for patents, they'd still be eligible for royalties because they were clearly first to market with this device.

I'm not sure that that's the right word. Perhaps it was the optical disc drive. But it just really didn't seem like it.
As far as the sound... Are the only working sound from a computer from the fans, hard drive and disc drive? Where does the mechanical sound a PC(/Mac) makes while it's processing something come from? Is this just the hard drive, or does accessing RAM or the CPU make any kind of audible sound?

No, they don't make any sound at all. They have no moving parts at all. The only sounds come from hard drives, optical drives, and fans.

Sorta. I backed mine up to my Wiimote because I wanted to transfer them to the new Wii to replace the defective one.
Anywho, on the new system I transfered them back to the new Wii but at the same time it deletes them off the Wiimote which makes no sense.
The bad part is when I went to edit my Mii on the new Wii it said "You cannot edit a Mii you did not create".
So I am pretty much ****ed right?
If this is the only way to back up a Mii that is a stupid, stupid, stupid mistake.

None online. One about 10 miles from work has some, but it's not worth it, not with the lunchtime traffic around here.

If you need nun chucks, Toys R Us in Times Square had a huge bin of them as of Monday night. No controllers (or Wiis) though.

Yeah, I got one from there when I picked up my Wii. They were all out of extra controllers, though.
