Apple sort of confuses me..
they're obviously smaller on the computer market and such and there is some killer software that I like better then some PC software...

so why don't they make PC versions?

Why would you make a program exclusive to mac, i promise you a PC user won't jump ship so he can buy an iPod and use iTunes on a mac, i think they should do what microsoft does and start programming all their popular programs for PC so that their name gets around as having cool software.

It's pretty simple, really. Apple is primarily a hardware manufacturer. They make the vast bulk of their money selling computers. If they made all their software Windows compatible, or made their OS run on PC architecture, they'd probably irritate their stockholders, who expect them to maake a profit.

Say if you are a car maker and you also make some of the best tires out there. If you offer your tires to fit all of the competitor's wheels then why would people fork the cash to buy your entire vehicle when they can buy a lesser, cheaper car and just get the same tires?

Apple makes most of their money from selling machines, so they need to continue to do so. And If apps like iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and DVD Studio pro can get a few people to buy macs then Apple wins overall.

They did make Windows versions of FileMaker, AppleWorks, and Quicktime. I don't think they've made much profit off 'em.
