The .mac offering from Apple seems expensive for what it offers. I like the intergration of iDISK to my desktop but the cost of 1G storage space seems excessive. Are there alternatives for online storage that intergrate with Mac O/S?

Thanks!

LOL - true "Home to the world's largest collection of Brady Bunch fan fiction." clearly indicates what this forum is about and .MAC yields no hits - but c'est la vie.

The farking search function on MacNN doesn't work with words < 4 letters. It's not your fault.

The Lounge is the correct place for .Mac, because it's neither hard- nor software related.

Just go back in time in the Lounge. There are quite a bit of threads talking about this.

that's a jacked-up precedent. the lounge is for topics of no value. Mac tech questions must fit into some forum.

It's more of a general internet question.

Where would you ask a question about finding a good web hosting service?

They aren't asking for help with .Mac, they are discussing its value.

IMHO, no .Mac isn't worth the money Apple asks for it. Perhaps for €20 a year. There are far better alternatives available for less money than the yearly fee for .Mac.

Any machine with either native Appleshare, Netatalk, or WebDAV running can reproduce the functionality of iDisk more or less, your way of connecting to it would be slightly different though (although you can automate this by putting a connect icon in your dock).

There is really nothing that special about iDisk, no magic Apple voodoo there. So, personally, I think .Mac is WAAYYY overpriced if all you care about is iDisk.

I got .mac on sale and I'm starting to use it more and more lately it seems. At full retail I probably wouldn't have gotten it tho.

Since you can't even run a forum or Scoop site or crap off it, I think .Mac is pretty effing worthless.

I just sold my old G5 iMac to some not very tech-savvy friends on mine. They signed up for the free trial and just loved the ease which which they could upload photos etc.

If you have any idea how a web server works then I don't think .Mac is worth the money, but for ease of use it can't be beat.

For me, the valuable thing about .mac is the syncing of multiple computers (with regards to the address book and calendar)

I like it. Maybe that's because I got it for free? Yeah, that's it.

Otherwise I wouldn't pay for it. $99 a year is steep for 1GB of total combined (yes, combined) iDisk storage + email storage.

I get 220 GB for the same price. Go figure. I can back up my complete HD.
