Anybody know of a free DVD decrypter? I have heard of Mac The Ripper but that is a pain since you have to save it onto your hard-drive. I have a decrypter for Windows that decrypts the DVD before it copies it called "DVD43Free". Does anybody know of a program like this for Mac?

Not a clue. And unless you were talking about copying your HOME MOVIE DVDs that your stand alone DVD burner encrypted somehow, this isn't the place to look for help. We do take the issue of piracy very seriously, you know.

Isn't making backup copies of DVDs you legally own covered under Fair Use?

Yea, isn't completely legal to make backups of your DVD's for your personal use.

The ability to create copies of the media you've purchased for personal use is a long-accepted facet of the fair-use doctrine in U.S. copyright law.

haha, I have had the toughest time switching over to Mac OSX. I had everything I needed with Windows. I am not trying to be annoying, its just frustrating that when you spend 80 bucks on an app that it doesn't do what it advertises.

Mac The Ripper works great. If you don't have at least 8 gigs of free space on your hard drive you have a Mac thats not going to rip or burn DVD's in an acceptable rate of time anyway. No idea how any program can decrypt a DVD without making a copy on the harddrive Mac or Windows.

That sort of depends on whether or not you believe the RIAA and MPAA's claims. I personally believe that backing up a DVD I've purchased is allowable, but that is PERSONAL OPINION only.

For making copies of home made DVDs and for backing up legally purchased DVDs, Handbrake should work fine.

Thanks because that what I am doing. When I go on trips I like to make a copy of the DVD i purchased in case it gets scratched or lost.
