From VersionTracker.com:

Product Description:

Deja Vu offers an automatic and seamless new approach to backing up your files. It's a preference pane that shows up in your System Preferences, and it allows you to schedule unattended backups of important folders, or even your entire system.

Deja Vu has been localized for English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Japanese, Ukrainian, and Traditional Chinese.

* Backup an unlimited number of folders.
* Perform your backup manually at the click of a button, or schedule your backups to run whenever it's convenient for you. Backups may be scheduled on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, and will be performed even if you aren't logged in.
* Save time by backing up only the files that have changed since the last backup.
* Perform remote backups to WebDAV, AFP, NFS and SMB servers.
* Synchronize the contents of folders.
* Accurately clone your OS X system disk, producing a bootable copy.

What's new in this version:
[new]

* Deja Vu is now a Universal Binary which runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.
* Added preliminary support for excluding folders from a backup.
* Added 'New Folder' button to 'Choose Folder or Disk' sheet.

[fixes]

* Improved reliability of scheduled backups.
* Improved Auto-Connect reliability.
* Worked around some problems which occured when the login shell was tcsh.
* The Safety Net folder was still being created when Safety Net was disabled.
* Improved reliability of automatically opening Deja Vu at login if there were errors in a backup which took place while logged out.
* Improved reliability of the Deja Vu status icon appearing in the menu bar when it should.
* Fixed miscellaneous problems with remote backups.

[changes]

* Improved feedback. Deja Vu now does a better job of indicating what it's doing, which is especially helpful if you select 'Show details' to watch a backup in progress.
* Improved error log output. When 'Show only errors' is checked in the log sheet, you will see a more nicely formatted error log, including Apple's own description of any system errors.
* Other miscellaneous changes.

Product Requirements:

* Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
* Universal Binary

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

* Mac OS X 10.3
* Mac OS X 10.3.9
* Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
* Mac OS X 10.4 Intel

I now use this instead of Apple's "Backup" since you can only backup 100MB per a transfer. I love this program but am having difficulties figuring out what Safety Net is. Anybody know?

I use (own) DejaVu AND Apple's Backup.

DejaVu does my disk cloning (weekly to external drive) and backup does nightly backup of really important files to .Mac.

Remember, a backup is only good if you can actually get to the files and if you have a huge drive failure (ie 2... it happens) or a fire (those happen as well) you lose everything.

Make sure you have some part of your backup plan that includes offsite backup.

The Safety Net is a temporary copy of your manually deleted files that is retained for x number of days.

What is the points of it? It just backups files to the hard drive that you deleted? Why would you need that?

p.s. I have an offline backup. online=x drive offline= hard drive and flash.
