Depends on what you do with your Mac. But even with the basic Safari + iTunes + IM, I find the upgrade to 1GB helps a lot in that I see less spinning beach balls (since I have a habit of leaving apps running all the time, with lots of Safari windows and tabs).

when I upgraded from 512 (2x256) to 1gb (actually 1x1GB, 1x256, so 1.25GB RAM) I noticed a HUGE increase in performance. I could finally run photoshop, itunes, firefox, and a torrent program!

As ginoledesma said it depends on what you do with your Mac. If you use intensive programs then you'll notice more of a difference. Although going from 512 to 1 gig you'll notice a difference in daily computer activities because I think 512 is really the minimum amount of RAM you should have to run current programs. It's when you start added a lot more RAM that you will notice little returns for your money unless you are one of those power use or a big multi-task user. As the minimum recommend RAM rises for programs you'll notice a difference if you don't keep up.

I can't remember whether your model has 2x256, or 1x 512. Either way, 1 more 1gb chip will make a huge difference. 2 of them will make a bit more.

This is probably your PowerBook : Apple PowerBook G4 1.33 15" (Al) Specs (15-Inch 1.5/1.33 - M9421LL/A) @ EveryMac.com

Which means you can go to 2GB of RAM. Memory from Crucial or OWC is guaranteed to work (and only about $130).

Depending on what you do this might actually extend the lifetime of your laptop for quite some time. Personally, I hate OSX on anything with less than 1GB of memory (iPhone and AppleTV excluded).
