I need to know if the headphone socket on the iPod Touch is recessed.

I have some Shure headphones and love them, so if the socket is recessed then I would not be buying a touch.

What's with the attitude. The guy asked an honest question, albeit with a little touch of snarkiness at the end, but still, an honest question.

alangreenwell, I am not sure if the iPod Touch headset jack is the same as the iPhone (recessed) but, like JonoMarshall pointed out, you can buy a cheap adaptor for headphones. I bought this one for my iPhone and it works really nicely, and isn't ugly like some of the other adaptors.

Thank for your replies.

I apologies for the snarkiness, it was unintentional. It was just that I did not really want an extension cable as you both pointed out, it's one more thing to carry (lose).

Heh, sorry, no attitude here, I just thought it was a little bit funny to avoid buying a product because of the headphone jack being recessed (considering an adaptor is cheap cheap cheap), good choice with the Shure headphones though, they're awesome.

(Although on a side note I see lots of suited and booted chaps off to their jobs in the wharfs of London with Shure headphones inserted loosely like buds - it makes me smile, then cry a little.)

I can confirm that the iPod Touch does not have a recessed jack. My Etymotic ER-6i's work perfectly with it!

Thanks for the feedback, I have just unwrapped a new iPod Touch and my Shure headphones work fine. The machine is fantastic.

Cheers again
