MOVED TO APPLICATIONS --- THANKS!!!

Another question for you guys (moving from pc to mac)-

I have a pc program called CleanUp! that deletes all temp files, caches, cookies, internet history, temp internet files, etc, and always finds a lot more stuff than the normal windows cleanup gets. Kind of like my own "private browsing" since I can just run it after surfing the web and it clears everything out.

Is there a similar program that wipes all these files out on OS X?

Thanks!

Just saw one on the apple website that was shareware and it reminded me - hopefully there's some freeware out there!

Applejack. It's the BEST way to do it. And it even repairs HDs. And it's free.

What does Applejack give me making it the BEST way to do the job compared to a utility like Maintenance? From an OS cleaning point of view that is, I have Disk Utility to repair damaged HDDs.

Don't need a start-up CD. Applejack runs in single user mode

Here is snippet from the website.

"Using AppleJack, you can repair your disk, repair permissions, validate the system's preference files, and get rid of possibly corrupted cache files. In most cases, these operations can help get your machine back on track. The important thing is that you don't need another startup disk with you. All you need to do is restart in Single User Mode (SUM), by holding down the command and s keys at startup, and then typing applejack, or applejack auto (which will run through all the tasks automatically), or applejack auto restart (which will also restart the computer automatically at the end of the process)."

Here is a nice summary on the page I linked of the benefits of negatives of it

Tricky? Not at all. I am certainly no "power user" when it comes to CLI.

Just restart the computer, hold down the cmd+s as soon as it reboots and then type applejack auto

applejack is indeed very easy. A couple days ago it repaired a disk/filesystem error that was slowing down my MBP.

If you're using Firefox, try the Distrust add-on.

Ok, I'm bringing this one back from the dead now that I finally have my very on Macbook!

The "reset safari" function works great to delete all the temp internet file/cookies/history/etc. My question now is what about temp files generated by program installations/system temp files? Basically any other temporary files/logs?

I was using finder to find something and it showed up in a folder called "tmp", I think in the user folder. Do I need to periodically clean this folder out or will OSX take care of it for me?

These files wont fnck up your system like Windows. leave em alone. As long as you don't see anything in your user folders, don't go hunting for things to delete.
