I think having a thread specifically for the dock mods is a good idea, it saves wading through pages of posts to find specifically dock mods.
Especially since that thread is currently more of a discussion on attempts to hack the GUI. By the time we actually start having notable success the thread will be a search nightmare.

I'll bite..
Here is a little preview of something I am whipping up. I am thinking of calling it "Cobalt Blue", and am going for a modernized "tron" look. Props to "revmitcz" for his great templates, and app indicator icons. Comments welcome!
I'll be posting the images when all is done.

MarkLT1, that is looking awesome. Currently, I am using the no-glass mod for my dock, which is usually hiding, mainly for two reasons. I hate the angled edges of the dock, and I really like the round (as opposed to elliptical) indicator lights.
Is it possible to mod the dock to go all the way to the edge of the screen? I hate the way it ends abruptly on either side. And is there a way to bring the round indicators into the glass dock? If we can do this, I might switch back

DockColor - Dock Color Customization App.
Provides a simple interface to changing the color of the Mac OS X Leopard "shelf" Dock. With a simple color-picker interface, you can change the color of your Dock quickly and easily. DockColor automatically backs up the original files, and you can easily revert back to the original Dock from within DockColor as well.

Ok nice docks and all.
Who can create an ANIMATED, non-still dock with animated designs and all?
I am the first one to come up with the idea as of 6 Nov 2007, 11.05AM +8GMT time

Well... First to POST the idea...
I wonder if one is able to use gifs, qt files, flash, or other means of animation. That said, I'd bet it would "cost" a lot to get it done. I would love to see some gentle waves lapping at the bottom of my screen. Or some snow flakes falling. Or the hip-gyrating action of a... oh wait, never mind

Check out this site for Leopard Docks.
The site is slow at the moment.
They have about 60 or so Dock designs , plus a Dock Installer app. LeopardDocks.com

Hi, I was using the 3D dock for a while(trying to conform to it's new look and all). But I think I'm happier with the 2D as well. I went looking through the resources but cant find the right files, oh well I'll keep searching as well.
Not to sure if this has been posted already but here it goes. If you like the 2D dock better but find the borders way to thick or to thin or find the color to drab, you can change them they are labeled:
bottom1-5 for the bottom borders.
left1-5 for left borders.
right1-5 for right borders.
Cheers

In addition to the mods I posted here, I've come up with two new ones.
An abstract image with sharp strokes:
Direct Link.
And a "Painted Dock" with canvas texture:
Direct Link.
Both of them have a couple of color variations, too.

Hi all,
Just saw a app called pimpmydock over a macupdate, and thought I'd share. Here's the description from macupdate:
PimpMyDock allows you to create and modify easily your Dock appareance by using simple .docktheme files. Each docktheme file contains all resources; just drag it in PimpMyDock and click Apply Theme: PimpMyDocks will do all the job for you! Easily and secure!
macupdate
Cheers

I just finished and released my first own mod, SimpleDock. Rev. Mitchz' Dark Glass mod is included for the 3D style, and it has a custom flat style. I've packaged it altogether with and Installer and Uninstaller aswell.
