I forgot my iPod for the first time in the year I've had it. While I don't usually listen to it for all 8 hours, I still use it for the majority of the day. And I was so looking forward to the Bill Walton interview I had lined up on one of the podcasts...

I avoid this by running iTunes on my PC, and leave my iPod in the car. iTunes stays off whenever I do any resource-intensive stuff, though, since it's a pig. I should really find a AAC player for the PC that's not such a pig, but I'm too lazy.

I used to have my library on my work computer (because my PowerBook HD had died), but it was deemed unnecessary once I got the iPod, and technically, I shouldn't have those files there anyway, so i deleted them once I was sure I wouldn't need them.
I'd listen to some internet radio, but that's against the rules too, at least I imagine.

Yup. There was one time I realized I forogt my iPod and I turned around to get it. I was only less than 5 minutes from the house, but yeah, I depend on my tunes/podcasts.

I told everyone I was going home sick when I noticed it was missing. On another day I might even have wasted 45 min to go get it, but since I'm on OT, I don't feel like wasting the time.

I don't find anything wrong with the radio. I find out about a lot of local happenings on it and the classic rock stations here in NY/NJ are damn good.

You listen to the non-music portions of the radio?! Someone lock you up.
Edit: Classic station are by default more tolerable because of their nature of playing the better music of their timeframe, but eventually they become just as repetitive as they have only so much music to pull from.

I'm finding more and more that the music I want to hear is on classic rock channels now. It's a bit depressing.

The BS Report on ESPN. From what Bill Simmons was saying, Walton graciously said nothing was off-limits, but he might have gotten offended at the end when Simmons asked him if he felt he had been part of the break-up of the '77 Blazers.
Either way its Bill Walton. You have to hate long-winded overenthusiastic positivity to hate him.

I'm downloading it right now before I hit the road. Thank you.
I've been needing some new podcasts. I've been running out a lot lately. I'm subscribed to IGN Games Podcasts, Tips from the Top Floor, MacBreak Weekly, and TWiT, but just added 4 ESPN podcasts.
My headphones aren't coming off the rest of the day. I just hope my wife doesn't notice when she wants to talk when I get home.

I keep waiting for a channel to appear somewhere that is just that. AltNation on Sirius does it from time to time and they get flooded for a week or two afterwards with people asking them to just stay that way.

Bill Walton's voice is "different," but he's one of the most knowledgeable basketball analysts around. The guy really knows what he's talking about.
My latest habit of listening to my iPod and playing Puzzle Quest while driving probably isn't the safest thing in the world, so everyone say a quick prayer for me. Holiday traffic and such...

Still it gets old after a few days. I remember being pumped about it on Friday and getting tired of it by Sunday because I started hearing the same songs... and I don't even listen to the radio that much.

I think Sirius overall (I'm a subscriber) has a chronic problem with overrepeating songs. I imagine it has to do with their very specific dividing of channels; there's only so much music that pertains to a certain specific genre.
For instance, I flipped to channel 2 to see how their Christmas music was this year. I think I heard the same song at least twice, if not three times that day.
Not to say that I'm not thankful for the specific channels - they really are nice if you are only into one type of music and you want to hear it nonstop. It does get repetitive though.
The cross-country reception, while spotty in enclosed or rural areas, is also quite nice.

The NYC area has very good radio, but it sucks for the rest of the country outside major cities. Try driving west on I-80 for a while past the Poconos. I did that once, before the iPod was even a gleam in Steve Jobs' eye. Thank God I was only driving to Pittsburgh!

At work I typically listen to Pandora...usually Mae, Wolfmother, Sullivan, Muse or a couple others. At home I have iTunes going on my stereo, since trying to run Pandora along with anything else doesn't work too well on my iBook.

What a fine thread Dakarʒ!
I gave up on iPods and mp3 players in general. My teensy tiny cell phone holds 8GBs of music and movies, enough for me. If I ever forgot this, I'd go back.

suck it up cupcake and get back to work
I had an older ipod that bit the big one and I waited a few months for the new generation of ipods to come out. So I had to get used to not listening to music during the day again.
What I find bad about the ipod at work is I get into the music and I don't hear if someone is trying to get my attention and that usually results my being startled by them.

Luckily I keep the volume low enough to hear everything I'd hear normally (including the inane chatter).

Hey JawBone, what'd you think of the Bill Walton interview? I knew he was feeling it when Simmons trying to introduce him spurred 4 minutes of non-stop monologuing.

I teach at several schools, and thus don't have a computer for personal work use. I end up using my iPod for holding work data just as much as I use it for listening to music. While not having it would be a bummer, its not a day killer.

Oh, and half a year later, the Walton interview was pretty good. I loved the tension towards the end when Simmons brought up Walton breaking up the Blazers. You could just see Walton shaking his head and thinking, "cheap shot."
Better late than never, I guess.

I didn't think it's a cheap shot. It might have been a little out of place as a hard hitting question on what had been a pretty casual podcast. You could tell he regretted the phrasing almost immediately.

Same here. I don't get cell reception in my building (damn EM-shielding), so it's off all day anyway. The iPod though? Love it. Keeps me entertained while I'm almost two weeks ahead of schedule.
